New Orleans Saints offer second-round tender to offensive tackle Zach Strief
New Orleans Saints offer second-round tender to offensive tackle Zach Strief and third-round tender to safety Usama Young
By Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune February 24, 2010, 3:18PM The New Orleans Saints offered a second-round tender to restricted free agent offensive tackle Zach Strief, according to his agent Ralph Cindrich, and a third-round tender to restricted free agent safety Usama Young, according to his agent Andy Simms. Strief's offer was a one-year deal worth $1.759 million, and Young's offer was a one-year deal worth $1.101 million. By making those qualifying offers, that means the Saints will have the right to match any deal Strief or Young might sign with another team. And if they choose to let them sign with another team, they would receive a second- or third-round draft pick as compensation. The Saints also made a second-round tender to Strief last year when he was a restricted free agent, and he did not attempt to sign with another team. The possible levels of compensation are 1st and 3rd round picks, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick and original draft round pick. Young was drafted in the third round in 2007. |

I honestly think one of the teams drafting later in the draft will give up a second for him. The guy can be a starter in this league.

Those are fair numbers, and, imho, given that you have to lose one to get one for many teams, a safe ploy, especially since you still have first right of refusal on terms.
