Loomis Discusses Veterans' release

New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis discusses veteran cuts | - NOLA.com

New Orleans Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis spoke highly of all three veteran players the Saints are releasing this week - defensive end Charles Grant, guard Jamar Nesbit and linebacker Mark Simoneau - but said the time was right to move on with each of them.

He said the team wanted to release them before the start of free agency so they had the best chance to hook on somewhere else.

Loomis said the team didn't discuss any plans to bring Grant back at a reduced salary in the future.

"I think a change will be good for him. Hopefully he'll be able to hook on with another club," Loomis said of Grant, who had been with the Saints for eight seasons - longer than any current player on the roster.

Loomis did say, though, that "I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for him."

I'm no one.
