Possible reasons Sharper on Market

Most Saints fans would think the Saints would be crazy to not resign Darren Sharper. I would love to see Sharper return as he is definitely the best current FS we have on the team. The Saints are possibly in perfect position to compete for several Super Bowls over the next decade; so I could possibly see Loomis' logic in trying to revert back to the younger players in an attempt to prepare for the long haul. Malcolm Jenkins has potential to be a star at the position, as seen on several plays this season. His pass reading skills are top notch, and may eventually end up being the better choice in a year or 2. Sharper is the proven player though, so the decision is sure to disappoint a lot of people if it does happen.

I don't think Sharper would be out signing DVD's if the FO wasn't talking about resigning him.

they are going to find out what is market value is before the offer him some ridiculous contract. he'll be back, but he thinks he is worth more than he really is

I think they are just showing him that nobody will pay him the 6 million he wants, and whatever he is offered they will pay. If the highest offer he gets is 3 million and he was asking for 6 and the Saints sign him they save themselves 3 million.

Ding Ding! That's it! Exactly! He really has an inflated sense of self worth. This is the only thing that bothers me about Sharper.

Look, he was awesome this year, and a big reason we made it to the big game, but I really doubt he is going to put up those numbers again.

Aparently, Loomis doubts that too and isn't going to sign him to a contract for what he did in one season.

I hope they bring him back, but at at a price that is reasonable (which is much less coin than he wants).

Could it be that the Saints just want to get younger.

I think Sharper will come to his senses and realize that the Saints are not going to pay him $6.455 million for one season. When he realizes his true value, and the fact that GW's defense is exactly right for him to do his thing, he will come back and sign a 2 or 3 year deal with the Saints.

wow. i really wanna internet-punch you in the face right now. inflated sense of self worth? you watch snl? REALLY!? the guy is nothing but humble, and he really shouldnt be. he's a badass. my fave player is the vildabeast, but, as much as i love him, sharper was really our defensive mvp this year.

i dont know about you, but, ill trade this 6 million dollar feeling i have since winning the super bowl, to win another next year! without him, we cant repeat. period, case, and close. pay him 6 million. what do you care? you're not forking over the cash, are you? its an uncapped year. pay the guy. believe me, hes worth it.

Meh, most football players have an inflated sense of self-worth..... otherwise what would be the point of playing(besides making money). They want to prove themselves. Pointing him out as "arrogant" in his abilities is sort of redundant.

Yes, but don't "overpay the man".

Rolle is the benchmark for FS in 2010. Let #42 test the market before we commit top dollar to a player with 2 years - and i'm being generous - left in his career.

Without one player, we can't repeat? My God, how did the Packers, Dolphins, 49ers, Steelers (twice), Cowboys, Broncos and Patriots all do it??????? :whatever:

“The fact that they didn’t get it done early doesn’t bother me,” he said. “They wanted me to weigh my options. Last year, they got me at a bargain price, and they know this is probably my last chance at getting a good deal in my career. They’re going to see what the market is and decide what they want to do.”

In other words, the Saints will pay if they have to pay. Should Sharper receive a better offer elsewhere, he believes, New Orleans will likely be motivated to match it or at least come close. And if he can’t generate much interest, the Saints will be his most plausible landing spot.

“I’m not letting myself worry about what they’re thinking, or what anyone else is,” Sharper insisted. “If it comes down to someone wanting me, they’re going to come get me. And if something really good comes along, I’m going to jump at it.”

Now that makes a lot of sense!

The Saints' contract discussions with free agent FS Darren Sharper reportedly remain "positive."

No teams have set up a visit for the 34-year-old yet, so the Saints aren't being overbid. We'd still expect Sharper to wind up staying in New Orleans.

Possible reasons Sharper on Market? (sorry, I added the "?")

Now that everybody has had a chance to weigh in on this topic, I will give you a reason that nobody might have thought of...

He was throwing frisbees and it landed on top of the market....(rimshot?)
