New Orleans Saints offensive players among most difficult to scout

Not only does nearly every player in the league want to play with the Saints' Super Bowl MVP quarterback, but his brilliance also keeps rival teams from raiding the Saints' roster for free agents.
How so?

NFL scouts will tell you that Saints offensive players are among the most difficult in the league to evaluate.
It's tough to gauge their abilities because the Saints' offense is so prolific with Brees under center it's hard to determine just how good the players are running it.

In other words, the sum is much better than the parts.
That's why free agents like Lance Moore, Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell might find their free agent services wanting around the league.
Rivals undoubtedly have bandied about these questions as they evaluate the Saints' roster:

Is Lance Moore the receiver who led the Saints with 79 receptions and 10 touchdowns in 2008, a poor man's Marvin Harrison? Or is he the guy who no team valued enough to draft out of the University of Toledo four years ago?

Lets hope this article is at least somewhat correct. That means we are much less likely to lose any of the RFAs that we want to keep (Pierre Thomas immediately comes to mind, since a new deal is already in the works with Jahri Evans).

We will now have to replace UFA Scott Fujita. Don't know if we will use the money from Fujita's Cleveland contract (3 years, $14 million) to try to sign a FA, or use it to try to give a pay raise, and lock up own own RFAs.

when you look at WRs like henderson and moore, its much harder to gauge how good they are

but when you look at guys like PT, he breaks a lot of tackles and slips through a lot of cracks, im not sure how hard it is to judge his talent when he is deadly regardless of where it is on the field

I think Henderson is easier to gauge how good he is just because of the receiver he has become the last couple of years. His drops have decreased drastically and he has become a more rounded receiver than just a deep threat. The thing that skews him the most is his stats since Colston gets the majority of the targets. I don't think Henderson could be a #1 receiver on any team, but I do think he could be a #2 on the majority of teams like he is now.

As far as your comment about Pierre, what a difference a season makes on an opinion, huh? ;)

You can only be sure of the absolute best in the Saints offense. Others are more tricky to be sure of. Are the others what statistical info is showing? Who knows. But I would say they are more so than what they were when they drafted years ago. There is no denying that the Hendersons and Meachems of this world have improved.
