Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
The New Orleans Saints apparently are in the market for a few old men.
35-year-old defensive end Leonard Little will visit this week. Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reports that 33-year-old defensive tackle Jamal Williams will be visiting the Saints, too. Williams, who has spent 12 years in San Diego, has been a 3-4 nose tackle. In New Orleans, he'd become a defensive tackle in the team's 4-3 approach. Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
No thanks. Hopefully we pass on him and Little.
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
Seriously. Both of those guys are over the hill and injury risks. No thanks.

Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
What? Why? Have they lost their mind? PASS,PASS! What we have now is better!
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
williams is a former all pro defensive lineman.
hes not the fastest guy but he represents the teams knowledge of their own weakness.....clogging the middle of the line except for this past season he has remained relatively healthy.....not exactly sure where the injury questions come in to play leonard little hasnt had as much success in the last few seasons |
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
Might as well look up Hollis Thomas..and yet Sharper 34 and Fujita 30 are being let go?...dont get it..
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
I think Williams would be a better addition than Little, and would help us on obvious rushing downs and goal line defense, IF he is healthy. He would only get 10 -15 snaps per game tops, so I guess if he's not too pricey we could give him a shot.
And yes, I would rather have Grant back than Little for a multitude of reasons. |
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
What happened with the Saints? They only going to place calls to guys over 30 and about to be done with football. Now I'll give Sharper the benefit of the doubt for now but come on Loomis talk to someone with some football life left in them

Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
The main problem is that because of the uncapped year, there just isn't any talent under 30 out there that hasn't been tendered as a restricted free agent. If we are looking for help, we better bang up in the Draft. We come out of it with 6 new player, and hopefully 2 of them can either start or play significant roles.

Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
Jamal Williams may not make it to NOLA. Hearing rumors that he may be signing with Denver before he even visits with us.
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
NO to both of these dudes!
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
I'd take Little for a little more than the vets minimum. He's not the same dominant pass rusher as he was years ago, but he still can apply pressure to the quarterback in a situational role. As for as Williams is concerned, if he can make it out of Denver without signing a contract, even if he's old and coming off an injury year, I'd pay him a couple of mil to play opposite Ellis for a year or two if he can pass a physical.

Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
jamal is better than what you think. sd defence was a lot worse without him. he demands a double team which would free up ellis. with him and else teams wont run up the middle. dont exactly know what his injury was or how he will cum back but he would help a ton more than you think. esp if he is used right. ellis and the line will be freed up alot. just cant over use him. if he comes cheap it would be a good pick up if healthy!

Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
1 year deal might not be so bad, if they still got some game.
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
We still need a DT, and a DE, in the draft. I'm not going to hang my hat on either one
of them. |
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
Does anybody else think that signing Canton Legend to the DT spot is a better idea?
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
i wouldnt either. just saying for a year or two that jamal will help. even if we draft one he could teach as well as be in a rotation. in sd rivals denver want his as bad as i hear that ought to tell you something. they have played against him alot.

Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
Really ??? why, has either one played a full season in the past couple of years.

Before heading to New Orleans, Jamal Williams is visiting Denver Posted by Mike Florio on March 8, 2010 7:33 PM ET Free-agent defensive tackle Jamal Williams might not be leaving the AFC West, after all. Williams. cut last week by the Chargers, currently is visiting the Broncos, according to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post. Broncos defensive line coach Wayne Nunnely served in that same capacity in San Diego from 1998 through 2008. In Denver, Williams presumably would rotate with Justin Bannan, whom the Broncos recently signed. Earlier today, Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reported that Williams will be visiting the Saints. |
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
Thats ok let the pony's have him. I know Mickey knows more then we do but how much can he have left in the tank.
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
since 02 he has missed only 4 games untill this year. pretty good for an outstanding dt. he is getting ould but still better than everyone we got except maybe ellis but you might even be supprised there.

oh and all those games he played in.....he started during the saints rebuilding years from '06 to '09 williams has accounted for over 41 tackles per season......and thats including the only game he played last year against the oakland raiders in which he only had 3 tackles from a NT position usually you dont see that kind of production but the dude can play. to compare numbers, ellis has averaged 32 tackles per season and he has a lot more freedom as a 3-tech |
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
well said. im a huge saints fan but my friend is a huge chargers fan so i have watched him play forever. he does better with a constant double team then anyone ive seen. it would free up ellis even more. my biggest wish was we would sign brees when he was hurt. i was at work when my friend gave me the news. i thank him for his best player everyday!

Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
I still think we draft a DT in the first two rounds. Preferrably the first. Our D-line needs depth big time. That and not giving up 100 yard games to the other teams.
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
you get jamal to stop the run. sure draft one for depth and to learn under one of the best NTs plus they will stay fresh.
|
Re: Saints Hosting Jamal Williams
Williams is miles better choice than Little. And Williams brings experience, high level play. Yep, I like it.
