Saints' Anthony Hargrove and Mike Bell schedule more visits
Free Agency is certainly in full swing right now and still there are no real changes in the look of the New Orleans Saints. Scott Fujita's signing with the Cleveland Browns is big, but that's about all the action we've seen so far.
Business might be picking up soon though and not in a good way. Running back Mike Bell has already had one free agent visit with the Seattle Seahawks and now will head into Philadelphia to visit with the Eagles on Tuesday. After releasing long-time back Brian Westbrook, the Eagles aren't exactly shallow at the position but could use another strong runner. The Saints have the right to match any offer made to Bell, but would receive no draft pick compensation if he were signed away. Defensive tackle Anthony Hargrove is set to visit the Detroit Lions on Tuesday in his first visit with any other teams. Unlike Bell though, the Saints would receive a third-round draft pick if Hargrove were signed away. The team also the right to match any offer to him first of course. Other teams are said to have interest in Hargrove though so this may not be the only visit he plans. No other restricted free agents from the Saints have scheduled visits anywhere. Quarterback Jake Delhomme, formerly of the Carolina Panthers, had a visit scheduled with the Saints this past weekend but canceled it after signing with the Cleveland Browns. Delhomme would have backed up Drew Brees if he had ended up signing with the black and gold, but has a chance to compete for the starting spot in Cleveland with newly acquired Seneca Wallace. |
