Pittsburgh Steelers don't expect to be the New Orleans Saints' season-opening opponent
By Mike Triplett, The Times-Picayune The Pittsburgh Steelers don't expect to be selected as the season-opening opponent for the Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints on Thursday night, Sept. 9, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Saints, who will host the nationally-televised season opener, are expected to learn their opponent next week. Steelers President Art Rooney II said he expects his team to open the season at home because scheduling conflicts with baseball's Pittsburgh Pirates will force the Steelers to play on the road in Weeks 2 and 3. "We won't be playing in New Orleans," Rooney said Thursday. "We have to be home that weekend because of the baseball schedule. Unless they wanted to play us away three weeks in a row, and I don't think they'll do that." That leaves the Minnesota Vikings and Atlanta Falcons as the two most attractive matchups on the Saints' home schedule. Their other home opponents are Carolina, Tampa Bay, Seattle, St. Louis and Cleveland. |

If it were up to me I would start the season how it ended with a game vs. The SUPER BOWL 44 WORLD CHAMPION NEW ORLEANS SAINTS!!!!! vs the colts. It'll generate money in promotions bring tons of business to the city and it'll kill the favre stuff for the time being + after we demolish the colts I'm sure they'll have time to gawk at those obnoctiously large super bowl rings our boys get!

I'm ok with playing the Viqueens again. What better way to start out the season than to embarrass Grandpa Favre and the Purple Pansies AGAIN! Bring it on!!

Scheduling a bunch of consecutive away games has never stopped the NFL before ... we all can remember a hellacious road stretch not too long ago for our Saints! C'mon, NFL ... make them do it. WE ARE THE SUPERBOWL CHAMPS!

Sounds fun. But we don't play the Colts in 2010. Maybe in the 2011 Superbowl though.
Ok I can live with that. |

With that said. I would LOVE to hand the old guy his ass a second time. Because what better way to shut up the critics and Favreaholics than to watch Favre have to retire after the first regular season game because our D-Line embarrased him! :D Tavaris Jackson, dust off your cleats and put down the clipboard, just in case. (yeah right) |

First of all, I think I could legitimately qualify as a "friend of the family" since I played a full season of American Legion baseball having Brett's dad, Irvin, as my coach. Having chucked balls at the end of batting practice to his older brother and having said hello to his mom a couple dozen times while she was attending to Brett while watching the game from the stands...I think that would qualify me. It's not like we go to dinner every Sunday night, though. When you include that Kiln was only a rock throw away, it is hard for me to not be a fan of Brett Favre. You can also include that he graduated USM where my wife graduated and I also attended...just never got the degree. Dang it...that's something I got to get around to. Regarding the hoopla...I found that keeping the remote handy solves that problem handily. There is an episode of Seinfeld, King of Queens, Everybody Loves Raymond, or SpongeBob SquarePants on just about at any given moment. Secondly, it would give me great pleasure if you would be kind enough to remove the sig slamming Peyton. Archie Manning is my hero...and so are his sons. Hey...I'm from Mississippi. What else have we got? Oh yeah...Elvis. Anyway, I am so happy the Saints finally not only went to the big dance, but actually won it. However, I have to admit that it didn't give me great pleasure seeing Peyton being the goat. Whew! |

Edit...You know...I'm pretty sure I just gave you REP's from another post...and you go and do this to me!!! 2nd Edit...Yeah...I did. Went to that last post of yours and tried to do a negative REP and said I got to spread it around. You dodged a bullet. :) |

And yes, that's me and my dad, at the Riverwalk in New Orleans last year. He's my reason for being a Saints fan. :) |

Anyways...I went through all that for reasons unknown to me, but what I really opened this post for was to tell you about Irvin Favre...but not in great detail. All I have to say is that if you had ever been coached by that man it would be impossible for you to hate anything with the name Favre...or even anything that sounded like it. He was a great man and I'm hoping that some day the Mississippi Gulf Coast gets around to honoring him and not just Brett because there is no doubt in my mind that if there is no Irvin, there is no Brett. (you know what I mean) |
