Overtime Rule change
Overtime Rule Change. What do ya'll think. Leave it the ways it is or modified it. I say leave it alone. Really don't understand what the problem is.
Is it because the Great Brett Favre didn't get to play in the Super Bowl. Or is it the coin toss play a great big role. I think it fair just the way it is. |
Re: Overtime Rule change
Coin toss really does not play a big role. I posted this in the other OT thread.

Re: Overtime Rule change
the NFL wants "SIR FAVRE" to have the chance to throw one more airball each game...its BS and they need to leave it alone...there are 3 phases to the game O/D/ST..why take that away to have 1 glory boy get his chance to play in OT....BS...just BS

Re: Overtime Rule change
Don't change it, unless its like the college format.

Leave it alone. It could go either way for either team any given game. It helped us this season, it may hurt us next. You can't just change the rules everytime it adversely affects your golden boy of the moment.

Simple reason: field position. When a team wins the coin toss and defers the kickoff (and BTW that's what the rule says, doesn't say you get possession or "receive the ball" if you win the coin toss) , that team gives field position: team goes 3 and out, it leaves the team that kicked off in excellent field position. |
Re: Overtime Rule change
people want the rule to be changed so that teams must score a TD to win
what happens when the field conditions are terrible and the reason its in overtime is because nobody has been able to score a TD yet? why would people want a prolonged game that is terrible in the first place? |
Re: Overtime Rule change
These guys are professionals. Everyone of them. If your team starts out on defense....then stop the other team!
If you are on offense....go score! This whole thing, is ugly and dirty. To me, it seems as if some people want us to return the trophey and the record books will show SuperBowl 44 with an (*) *due to the Saints winning the NFC Championship, by established "Sudden Death Overtime", QB Brett Favre and the Vikings were unable to get a possession during overtime play. We at the NFL have decided this act was unfair to Brett Favre and the SuperBowl "victory" by the New Orleans Saints has been deemed farse. Minnesota, New Orleans and Indianapolis will be shown in a tie. |
Re: Overtime Rule change
I like the current OT rules. If you lose the coin toss, stop their offense. What is so confusing about that? Seems that the NFL is turning into the Disney League of American Football to me.

Re: Overtime Rule change
Well...it's official. The NFL finally decided on an OT rule that they can live with. In the future, if a game ends in a tie, a call will be made to the commissioner and he will decide who wins. :)

Re: Overtime Rule change
I think it's stupid to change the OT rules. All those people whining about the change are the same peope that got butt hurt because Grandpa Favre didn't make it to the Super Bowl.
Seriously, leave it alone. The team that loses the coin toss, you had 60 minutes to win the game. If you couldn't execute your gameplan when you had the opportunity, you deserve to lose the game. |
Re: Overtime Rule change
Bad change. And it's not about fainess. It's about squeezing in another 10-15 commercials. Maybe if a couple of other rules were changed then the offense wouldn't have such a decided advantage as they do now. For example, taking the skirt off the QB.

Re: Overtime Rule change
I always believed that OT should be a 7:30 qtr. During regular season if it is still tied after you play the additional 7:30 than the game ends in a tie. Playoffs of course you continue until there is a winner but keep it with the 7:30 qtrs. Never did like sudden death but I also don't like what they are proposing.

Re: Overtime Rule change
The commentators, writers, and analysts keeps forgetting that the Vikings (like all other teams that play in overtime) had a chance to win the game before overtime, and they, literally, threw it away.

Re: Overtime Rule change
just heard.......and you guys will like this
to pass, it is required that there are 24 votes of approval from around the league which means all it takes is 9 votes to veto the proposal one team specifically has already announced they are opposed to this rule change....can anyone guess who? minnesota vikings |
