Some very good choices so far. Another to add to the list- Vaughan Johnson. The least know of the Dome Patrol backers but definitely a fantastic run stopper in his own regard. Rushers were known to request their run schemes go away from this guy.

I can't remember who the interview was with but he relayed a story where Roger Craig of the Niners came back to the huddle after being stopped on a run by Johnson and his comment was "I don't know who that guy was but please don't let him hit me again".

Its true. This team is our 1st SB Champion, and we love them, but there are so many former Saints we would love to have seen get a ring, and who were so deserving and entertaining.

Im working strictly off the top of my head here, but talent? Lots of names, so many of them... I cant pick one... DT Jim Wilks-- you've never heard of him, but I guarantee, Joe Montana, and various Rams QB's still have dreams about him. John Tice-- would have been a go-to TE on any team in the league--- and a horse necked blocker. I'll never forget a safety blitz by SS Brett Maxie that knocked the ball from giant Bernie Kosar & scored a clenching safety. Maxie was a consistent playmaker, and continued making plays for ? Carolina? And for some reason I keep remembering Floyd Turner -- completely forgotten guy, the other reciever to Eric Martin. Came out of small NW La U--- and just burned some of the best D's in the hardest division in football.

We had the best kicker ever in Morten Andersen-- a nearly automatic 50 yarder-- phenominal leg.

We had the most powerful running back in history, Earl Campbell, but unfortunately a very beaten, aged version of his old self. I believe medically, there is something wrong with Earl, (besides his NFL wear/tear) that caused his entire body to age prematurely. Please buy his smoked sausage if you go to Houston.

For trivia fun, and all around jack-of-all-trades talent there's our favorite obscure name---Guido Merkins -- who could play receiver, safety, all four special teams, and even backup QB. He was the best in none of them, except special teams, but everybody loved his hustle.

I believe Bobby Hebert could be the NFL's most underrated QB, next to Warren Moon. In a too-simple offensive scheme, he consistently moved the ball, read the defense as well as Joe Montana, had an arm as strong as Elway, and probably ran better than both, and was fearless of contact. Just ask various linebackers, whom Hebert stiff-armed on the way to a first down. The dumbest thing you could do vs. Hebert was blitz, which always entailed him standing right in the pocket through the hit, and hitting Eric Martin on the slant for an automatic first down. Bobby's downfall was his own Cajun passion---He just wanted it too badly, and would make a mistake sometimes, just trying to do it all, which usually, he could.

You know how I feel about Bobby...but without getting into that, I have to call you on a couple of things. I think it is very questionable as to whether he read defenses better than Joe, and to say that he might have ran better than Elway...well, I'm just going to leave it at..."I don't think so!"
