Alex Brown to visit Saints tuesday

Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports a league source said DE Alex Brown will visit the Saints on Tuesday and more trips could be in the works for him.

The Saints are seeking a defensive end after releasing former first-round draft pick Charles Grant. They were reported to be interested in James Hall and Leonard Little earlier in the offseason. Hall re-signed with the St. Louis Rams.

The Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers are also believed to have interest in Brown. The Bucs use the same defensive scheme and had hoped to sign Aaron Kampman in free agency. The Panthers are going to try to replace the richest new Bear, Julius Peppers, by committee and Brown could be a big part of that committee if he heads there.

Hopefully the Saints will sign him before he makes any other visits.

It would make sense to sign him that way other teams will have to second guess which way we geaux in the draft...

I would have thought linebacker after the Jabari Greer signing and we still took the OSU kid...

I doubt seriously we were ever going to sign Leonard Little. Probably just using him to polish up on interviewing skills. lol

Hargrove was impressive last year. I really do like him. If the Saints upgrade then upgrade.

Just like I said last week the Saints will sign him and draft either Kindle or Weatherspoon at #32 and Anthony Dixon at #64. Damn I hate it when I'm right, NOT! roflmao

He did want a contract extension, but the Bears nixed it, because they had just put up big money for Peppers. They could barely afford to give Brown an extension to keep him in Chicago. I say sign this guy up for fair price, because they guy has been nothing but consistent in his career. You know exactly what to expect out of him.

So do we have the advantage bc he is coming here first, or will it hurt us if he wants to hear all offers?

I hope we don't low-ball him and lose him to a division rival.
Our status has got to look good to him-- Car and TB look ready to lose another 10 each next year

Alex Brown scheduled to visit Bucs Thursday
Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 6, 2010 1:58 PM ET
Former Bears defensive end Alex Brown is making a tour of the NFC South.

After a visit with the Saints Tuesday, Brown is scheduled to visit the Bucs Thursday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Of course, Brown has to make it out New Orleans first. The release of Brown's scheduled visit could be intended to pressure the Saints into making a quick deal.

Alex Brown would be good to have here in NO. I'm glad he's coming here first before making the rounds because if Payton and Williams like him they are smart enough to know how to deal with him and his agent. I believe that he could help us in our quest for a repeat.

You're right about that and that's why I generally pat a girl on the butt.

Re: Alex Brown to visit Saints tuesday

From Times Picayune:

Perhaps the biggest question surrounding Brown, though, is whether he can play the left end position in the Saints' defense. In Chicago, Brown -- who played in every game since to the second game of his rookie season in 2002, the second-longest active streak by a defensive lineman in the NFL -- primarily played right end.But that position with the Saints is occupied by Will Smith. At 6 feet 3, 260 pounds, Brown doesn't appear to be a perfect fit to play left defensive end, which typically is opposing offenses' strong running side.

Re: Alex Brown to visit Saints tuesday

Well I guess we'll find out if he can play defense now. I think he has at least 2 years left. Now we go after Kindle, Witherspoon or Bowman with the first pick and then Anthony Dixon at #64
