Mcown or Ramsey?

McCown, Ramsey work out for Saints

Associated Press

METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints have held workouts for veteran quarterbacks Josh McCown and Patrick Ramsey.

Team spokesman Greg Bensel says the pair visited Saints headquarters Thursday.

The Saints are looking for potential backups to Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees. Mark Brunell, who'll turn 40 in September, backed up Brees the past two seasons, but is a free agent.

Ramsey and McCown both began their NFL careers in 2002.

Ramsey is a Ruston, La., native who played for Tulane. He started 11 games for the Redskins in 2003, but has played in only four games since 2006 in stints with Denver, Tennessee and Detroit.

McCown started 13 games for Arizona in 2004. He spent the past two seasons as a backup in Carolina.

I'd take Ramsey.

I live in the same town Ramsey played his high school football and it still amazes me to this day that he was a first round draft pick.

D_it_up would you say he's a bust or just a back-up. He played for Tulane.

McCown has more recent experience. But what the heck. Sign Ramsey. I'm not excited about either really.

Is this McCown that played for the Tampa Bay Bucs. If so we know he has won a few games.

Well, he's definitely a bust from the position he was drafted from, being a first-rounder and all. He has proven that he is no more than a back-up in this league. I'm with exile on this one. Not excited about either one, but even as much as I like to support local players whenever they go pro, I would want McCown over Ramsey. But I would even rather have the other McCown (Luke) than I would Josh.

Different McCown. That was Luke. Luke went to college at Louisiana Tech, also in the city I live in. As I stated in my previous post, I would even prefer him over Josh or Patrick.

I think we need to wait and see how the draft plays out. If we could get someone like Jevan Snead in the 4th, I'd go for that and not worry about bringing in someone's throw-aways.

But it doesn't hurt to have someone with previous NFL experience. We have a project in Chase Daniel already. However, if it came down to drafting a QB, McCown, or Ramsey, I'd go with the draft pick.

The problem is that Chase doesn't really fit our offense very well. He might work for one game because of the fact that his style is foreign to what any team would have practiced for but that would only work one game. We need someone that could come in and give us a chance for a couple of games if Drew gets dinged.

I don't understand that assessment of Chase not fitting the offense without anyone having seen him play yet for the Saints, but o.k.

Colt McCoy, does he fall to the last pick in the second round.

Josh McCown over ramsey, better arm and accuracy, ramsey is a carbon copy of pennington

Of these two I'd say Ramsey. I think he'd be able to hold the fort for a coupl eof games if he had to. However I hope we never have to see that happen.

That ... and none of the above.

The other factor cited in the article is that it would count as our lone FA pickup in light of Fujita leaving. The fact that Bulger was cut does not affect us in that way, very much in the same light as the Brown FA pickup did not affect that. Plus Bulger has a much better track record. It's entirely likely SP and the gang have already contacted him, but $ are probably a major factor.

Is Chase Daniels not going to be a dedcent Back Up? Why the need to replace Brunell with Daniels sitting there.
More on the subject That "Crack Head" Charles Davis says we are going to Draft Tebow at 32 any way so problem solved ... Right???

2nd round is way to early to pick someone we never want to see have to play. We'd have to pay too much for him and we have needs elsewhere. If we take a QB at all, make it 4th or later.

No. I actually think Colt McCoy will go near the end of the first round. Which brings up the point that the Saints are in an excellent position to acquire additional picks, and still draft who they want (Hughes, I believe), by trading out of 32, with a team who wants to move up to get McCoy the first day, and is afraid that someone will get him ahead of them on Day 2.

I'm not sure which one would pan out better in Payton's offense and be able to fit best. Personally, I don't like the idea of my back up QB being a player that was just on the practice squad and who was cut a couple of times last year.... if I remember correctly. He may not be ready to carry that weight just yet. I don't necessarily believe that we need a replacement for Brunell. We need a QB with NFL experience that can be available while the team decides if Daniels can be the man. I can't think of another available veteran QB that is actually better than Brunell, and he's been very good handling the snap for kicks. I'm sure that whoever Payton decides to back up Drew will do just fine.

Neitehr...they both stink. I'd rather run a single wing with Reggie.

theres has to be someone better out there, someone for the future or a trade down the line, mccown? ramsey did raise eyebrows at one time. could he be groomed? probably not.

That's right but I believe that was due to Brunell being the clear #2 QB. So rather than tie up a player at 3rd QB Payton wanted to fill in at other positions of need. The Saints always seemed to make a big effort to put Chase back on the team in some fashion so it would seem like they do think that the guy has promise.

By the way, wheres Tyler Palko these days? He gave me some false hope.
