Sharp is coming off his best season, in his career statistically. Of course he's going to try and get as much money as he can. Some of you already said it, he's on the back end of his career. He's being smart. It's just like buying a stock, you sell at it's record high if possible.

It's negotiations. You up sell in situations like this. Sharp wants six, Saints offer 1.5, now you meet in the middle somewhere. As cheap as Americans are now-a-days, when you want a specific price for anything, you mark up your asking price, as high as possible, to get desired amount. That's what I do. Works everytime.
