Wild idea...
I know that I've seen this idea floated somewhere on the board, but I really want to have a serious discussion about this.
We just won the Super Bowl. We have retained just about every integral part of our team from last year. Thus, in my mind, we don't really have many (if any) "holes" to fill except a select few. I think I'd be willing to trade a large bundle of picks to go up and get Suh. Crazy? Maybe. But this guy seems like he's got HOFer all over him. In my mind, it comes down to quantity vs. quality. We don't need a lot of picks, we need one or two really good ones. Thoughts? |
Re: Wild idea...
There isn't a chance on this earth that we could climb that high up the draft. Set your sights a bit lower. There are some good players in the bottom on the 1st round.

Re: Wild idea...
Unless we're willing to include our first from next year, I don't believe even if we packed the majority of our picks this year, it still won't be enough to move up that high. Any chance of that happening, we'd have to include Jamal Brown with a group of picks and I'm not sure with all the hype the guy is getting... that the other team would take it. As good as Suh is suppose to become, there's been a TON of highly touted defensive tackles in the pass that never lived up to their billing. I'm more than comfortable keeping our picks and taking the BPA on our board at the time. If we do decide to trade up, I can maybe see up moving up in the mid to low teens... but that's about it.

Re: Wild idea...
The only scenario i would like to see us trade up for is if mcclain falls to the late teens/early 20s.

Go no higher than trading up into the teens. the price is to high any further up the draft board. Derrick Morgan, DE, Georgia Tech or Sergio Kindle, DE/OLB |
Re: Wild idea...
um ... the last time we did that it didn't work out very well.

For one its not Sean's style really.
Second that move could hurt this franchise for many years to come if it fails. Stay put or trade back... we don't need to reach. Seans reputation at finding gems have paid off thus for. |
Re: Wild idea...
i trust the front office.
one word: colston they've pulled diamonds out of the rough before... they can do it again. two dat, i tell ya. |
Re: Wild idea...
Isn't Suh the next Glenn Dorsey?
|
Re: Wild idea...
it sounds testy to go that high for suh, but it would cost more than next years no 1 . bpa probably won't happen unless he's lb or te, dt, thats in the picks on our board, and maybe the likes of a colt mccoy still being there. nota

Re: Wild idea...
Its funny (not really) how winning seems to hide a multitude of faults. We got away with murder last year...and please don't think I'm not happy about it. Since we won it all, I'll go ahead and open that can of worms: Imagine Favre not throwing that pic, somehow beating the Colts, and still being carried around on the shoulders of Vike fans. Would our conversation be different? I say YES! very much so. The same things that erked me before the SB, still rub me raw while rubbing the trophy. We will not be able to play the "same" football we played last year and hope to repeat. Defensively weak up front, no depth, no speed over the top, poor tackling, inconsistent on offense (run and pass). We are not going to be able to re-sign everybody and our dynamic will be much different in 2010. We will need every pick we have and will need to use great care in applying each one. We definitely should not package them for a dream.

Trading up? YES. That far? NO [QUOTE=Euphoria;218277] Second that move could hurt this franchise for many years to come if it fails. Don't get me started.... http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:q...lamsnditka.jpg Quote:

Re: Wild idea...
Suh is a can't miss guy in my opinion. There were a lot of concerns about Dorsey's health and height. Suh is a beast, I'd do it in a heart beat.
By the way, saying we shouldn't trade up for a DT because it went poorly the last time is an idiotic argument. That's like saying "Well last time we drafted a quarterback, it didn't turn out well, so I won't draft this Peyton Manning guy." There's NO CORRELATION between what happened with Sullivan and this year's draft. None so stop bringing that up. |

I'm a big fan of our scouting department.........let them tell Sean who they like and I'll support their suggestions.

Re: Wild idea...
I agree that Suh is a can't miss talent, but it's not wise to put our eggs in one basket. What if he has injury problems, or just doesn't do as well against shifty RB's or QB's who get rid of the ball faster? Better to spread the wealth, with how good this draft is.
