I think Sharper is the one playing the really dangerous game. If he waits too long, Loomis may withdraw the contract offer that has been on the table since March. Sharper then may have to sign with a team offering no more than $1.8-2 million for one season. Rumor is Loomis' offer is for two years at @ $7 million total, or $3.5 million/year. It isn't $6.445 million for one year that the franchise tag would have gotten Sharper, but it's likely more than any other team would be willing to pay him.

Honestly, Sharper will probably resign with us after the draft. Until then I wouldn't expect anything to happen.

Loomis is all business. I like it. I like him, he's good at what he does, and in this case, I think he's right.... there is nothing more you can do but to offer what you feel is a fair deal and sit on your hands. I don't blame him.

I hope Sharper doesn't get a better offer, but I really feel he isn't going to... for two reasons: He want's a LOT of money and pretty much concluded his outing with the Saints banged up and slowed up. If the 7 million / 2 year deal is true, I think that's about right for both sides. Sharper should jump on that, shut up and see you back in the B&G nation. If not, he might as well, start shopping for suits and get a head start on the inevitable career in broadcasting awaiting him.

He's too close to topping record books in some nice categories. I sure the hell would like to see those records set w/ him in B&G.

On another note though.... what the heck is Loomis doing posting his business on Twitter? That's just a little weird. Is he the only GM posting his thoughts on contracts? Of course we like to know the status, we like to read it, the media is pressing for gossips sakes... but Loomis seems very tight lipped / all business. It just seems bizarre that he's taking his game to twitter.

The draft next week is probably got him a little nervous.

Sharper runs the risk of us drafting another Safety, since we aren't sure he'll be back. Not to mention other teams in need of safety help may find it in the draft, leaving him few contending teams interested.

I noticed that Loomis indicated that they could fill any needs in the draft (minus kicker / punter) including and pointing out the safety position in the case Sharper hadn't signed yet.

Yeah, Loomis is putting that pressure and reality check out there. I think it indicates that Loomis really does want him back and its almost like his pleading with him publicly.... Like "Don't make me do this".

All said Sharper'esque safeties come along only once every few years [sigh]

If I were Sharper I wouldn't let the offer go to the draft without being signed. We will draft a safety in the draft as insurance if Sharper isn't signed then if he doesn't get any other offers which is highly likely then he'll be poo poo out of luck
