“He’s a great athlete, but he’s really a very physical player,” Detillier said. “You see it in his play in run defense, and you see it in his play when a receiver crosses his path.”

Jones, who has heard rumors of possibly being drafted by the New Orleans Saints, said he would be thrilled to have the opportunity to play so close to home.

“Being home would be great,” Jones said. “Being Louisiana homegrown would be great for the city and great for the state. And I know my parents would be happy because they would be able to come to every home game. So yeah, that definitely looks good.”

I am surprised that Chad didn't go to the MLB... however as an LSU HOMER I will not comment on on have CJ as a Saint.

Safety is about the only position where we DON'T need help. We've already moved all the corners that didn't work out to safety.

its been 6 years since we drafted anyone out of LSU....

before that it was '97 when we drafted nicky savoie in the 6th round and before that it was mike mayes in '89 in the 4th round

so sure......every 9 years we take a gamble on an LSU player

but thats a whole decade.....and sean payton has yet to take a player from LSU

we just dont draft hometown boys

Didn't we try to trade up for a certain LSU DT a few years ago, when we eventually "settled" for Sedrick Ellis????

First off, you said "we" as in the Saints, don't draft LSU players. Obviously not true. But you're right it's few and far between with LSU players.

But that's not a philosophy that our franchise has. It's not like we'd be getting ready to pick, there was a stud from LSU still on the board and was obviously BPA, and Loomis would say, "Whoa guys, he's from LSU, Canton says we don't draft hometown boys. Let's draft that guy from Gettysburg."

If Chad Jones is still around in round three, I say we take a look at him. He's a freak athlete and was, IMO, the best defensive player on LSUs defense last year.

It isn't that "we don't draft hometown boys..."

More correctly they'd already been picked ahead of us in the draft or we had a Ditkahead who traded the farm for a stoner.

its not that we are going to completely avoid drafting him because hes from LSU

and sure, if hes available later then there should be consideration in drafting him

but he is projected as a 2nd or 3rd round guy and we pick at the end of each round.....not likely we will draft him because he will be gone before we pick and its not like we go out of the way to get LSU kids just because they are from LSU

does that sound better?

if we would've traded up for dorsey then i wouldnt be saying that

but we didnt trade up for dorsey.....we traded up for ellis.....dorsey was gone 5 picks before us and we traded up to 7 to secure a tackle before cincy took him

i heard a lot of reports about us being very high on both dorsey and ellis so im not sure we "settled" as im sure you agree

The fact is, we DID try to trade up to get Glenn Dorsey. If you remember right, K.C. would not even play ball with us, so we made the deal to get Ellis. Now....I do not consider it "settling" when you get a guy like Ellis, but that is in fact what we did because we could not get a deal done to get Dorsey.

im not sayin we didnt like him...im think you understand that

its not that we didnt like him or didnt want him.......its that we didnt pick him

anybody can be bought and we werent willing to give up what it would've taken to move up that high

thus the fact that we just dont draft LSU players.....its not a knock on them....its just the truth

once a decade we take an LSU player......i cant remember the last LSU kid we took in the first round

if you look at the facts and the history......its more likely we take an Ohio state kid or a USC kid.....facts are facts.....not knocking on LSU
