Drew Brees Reportedly Lands Madden NFL 11 Cover

It looks like EA Sports' football titles will follow its college no-brainer cover athlete with another one when they announce Saints QB Drew Brees later this week at the NFL draft. ESPN's Adam Schefter broke the news via Twitter, but even back in February, you had to know this fan vote was going to be going in Drew Brees' favor by what I suspect will be a big gap.

Naturally, the conversation goes from here to the Madden Curse and how it relates to Drew Brees and the defending Super Bowl champs. View a brief history (at least through 2008) of the curse and how real it really is. Last year was something of a mixed bag. With two guys on the cover, it really only struck down one of them. Troy Polamalu battled injuries all season, but Larry Fitzgerald was pretty consistent with what you'd expect. His biggest dropoff came in the yards per catch and total yardage area. His number of receptions was almost identical to the previous season. The Cardinals even won a playoff game. If we're keeping score, that's probably a split.

The best part of this year's cover and the curse? Saints fans brought this on themselves, so perhaps they've got some of their own voodoo cooked up to counteract the great Madden spirits. Whatever the case, the EA devs should know Mr. Brees knows his way around a firearm after this offseason.
