Okay, Moving on to Trades...

Okay...

it didn't happen with the draft...

...it's cool esé

so what bullets do we have to make a trade for some defensive tackles, ends, maybe a linebacker...

J Brown???

one of the receivers not named Colston???

one of the Tight Ends now that we have a project for Coach P???

McCray, with his mouth, he can sell the trade himself, ask 'em he'll tell ya...

what about another running back with Bell gone?!?

Are we really going to start another season with a 3 defensive tackle rotation without two legit starters?

Is the pass rush from the ends that good?

Re: Okay, Moving on to Trades...

I think everyone is expendable to some degree save Brees; just matters if the deal is right. That being said, I think the most important position to fill right now has to be on the defensive line next to Ellis. We could definitely fill that with a Brown trade(possibly getting a decent OLB too). I think bringing up an OLB through prospects is a lot easier than a DT because of the position's large dependency on physical attributes as opposed to technique and skill(not saying that skill isn't important for a DT too). I'm more willing to accept someone like Stanley Arnoux play OLB than having a newbie DT; and I think a DT has to be the top priority in trades. Our run stopping ability hurt us all season long last year, even against the Colts(though that may have more to do with formations that we played to try to slow down Manning). Contrary to popular belief, we have a good foundation for a defense. I think with 1 or 2 key players we could have a top 10 defense to go along with our offense(which would pretty much have to make us a favorite). As much as I liked Sharper, I thought his impact on the team was slightly overrated; and I firmly believe that Malcolm Jenkins(with a little time in the position) could end up better than Sharper by season's end. I'd love to sign back Sharper, I just don't think it's really a make or break type situation thats being portrayed by some.

We have good corners. We have a top tier MLB, which to me is the most important position on the field. Jenkins will be fine. I think Brown is a huge upgrade over Charles Grant even though they have similar stats. Shanle is one of the most underrated people on the entire team. A few positions and I think our defense could be extremely surprising.

I would imagine the defense making additional strides in their 2nd year in Williams defense. I think we are 1 or 2 role players away from being a force on D so long as the young LBs and safeties step up. I would like to see a two down run stopper and a pass rush/blitz specialist emerge.

Is the pass rush from the ends that good?

What is our greatest need at this point?

Is it still DT? Well we now have seven on the roster... Okay, okay, I know only two are of 1st string quality - Ellis & Hargrove - but it would seem that two more could become solid 2nd in the rotation. Would I be happy with another SOLID guy in the middle - Yes.

Is it DE? We seemed to have really shored up the position by adding Brown & Wilkerson. Don't forget Hargrove can slide out and Charleston is solid depth (for now).

Is is RB? I think it's Hamilton's job to lose. And if he loses it - it'll be to one of the PS guys. Stay tuned to training camp!!

Is is S? Jenkins. Let's just think Taylor Mays with a year of Gregg Williams under his belt. (Still holding out hope for Sharper)

Is it LB? They wanted to draft one. Couldn't get the guys they wanted. I'm sure it's hard to be confident in guys who havent played a season but let's see what happens.

J. Brown could be traded but I don't expect anything before camp. Bushrod and Strief are free agents next year. C. Brown is a rookie. An injury to Bushrod or Stinchcomb would open a big hole on the line which J. Brown would easily fill. I personally think the roster is basically set unless a suprising cut by another team or an injury happens to the Saints. Although I would be shocked if a veteran QB like Bulger isn't brought in. I believe the staff really likes Daniel but that would be a huge roll of the dice.

I just don't see the Saints carrying 5 OT on the 53 roster. C. Brown, IMHO, will no go to the PS. Something has to give.

Re: Okay, Moving on to Trades...

These are the potential "bullets" or scenaros for trades...

Jammal Brown, LT > ProBowl Starter (preferably, DT, DE, OLB)
- (Scenario) it would seem for him to be the obvious trade candidate with his unrealistic contract expectations and his expenabliity seemingly demonstrated

Jon Stinchcomb, RT > Starting Player, 2R Draft Pick
- very unlikely, but if Brown were moved back to his more natural RT position (which is unlikely as Brown is seeking LT money) then it's a matter of the Second Round Pick being as good as advertised taking the LT spot, with an uncapped year, you could see a crazy thing happen

Jonathan Goodwin, C > Starter, 2R Draft Pick. LB
- should the Round 5 pick come in and shock/awe the staff, there is no way Goodwin is earning that money on the bench

Devery Henderson, WR > Starter (RB, DL)
- His value is very high and if Meachem can shake the UTenn jinx and produce like a R1 pick, Meachem will need opportunities

Lance Moore, WR > Starter (LB, RB, DL)
- Many still remember his '08 campaign; and even though Payton's scheme needs plenty of WR's, I'm actually beginning to think Devery has evolved into a quicker version of the previous Moore performance, and then there is the Meachem thing...

JB will be moved but I don't think we'll get as much as we want for him.

Re: Okay, Moving on to Trades...

I'd like to see a trade, but doubt that we will

I think trading a WR makes the most sense, but the problem is that you rarely get value for WR's. Very doubtful that we get a defensive starter for Moore or Henderson.

Stinchcomb is a force in the community and has another 3 years on his deal, so he isn't going anywhere, and Goodwin is still our best C, so that leaves Bushrod, who won't bring much, or Brown, who would be a gamble for any team.

So, sorry Howie: No Deal

And to add, who gives a crap? If we're gonna keep a guy because he does good work in the community, we've got some serious problems with the rest of our community.

He's a freaking football player. If he does good community work, then fine. But that should have absolutely ZERO influence on whether you keep or trade anyone.

Because he caused turmoil in the locker room with his investment flop.

there will be a trade but not till after training camp its going to be j.brown for a dt or lb. the longer we hold on to him the more valuable he may become. somebody will need a lt badly it somewhat happens every year.

Reason prevails...

This is what I'm saying, you get a team that thinks they're a contender and they lose a tackle in training camp and you get a player and draft pick in return...
