Darren Sharper leaves Jacksonville without contract offer

1 Attachment(s)
Sharper, whose nine interceptions helped give the Saints one of the NFL's most feared secondaries in 2009, had made it clear he would prefer to return to the black-and-gold. Management publicly takes the same stance, but its actions have made it clear the Saints want the market to set the price for Sharper who, at age 34, is probably looking at one last multi-year deal at the end of his career.

New Orleans Saints safety Darren Sharper, an unrestricted free agent, has left his official visit with the Jacksonville Jaguars without a firm contract offer, according to various sources and reports, although the sides remain in contact and no final decision has been reached.

you know straro you can't blame him for one last big hit contract he wants but everyone from jim miller to pat kerwin and all these football cronies say that sharper best fit is still new orleans.

Now if we can get past Dallas. I know, I know...Dallas said they weren't interested. That, I think, is an unsubstantiated rumor. I'll believe it when I see it.

i sure hope your right, i can't believe that jerry's world would intentionally take apart our defense to give him a chance at a super bowl. saints will be in his house converting cowboy fans if anything.

Despite his great season last year, the dude is considered injured and he is considered old. The smart thing for Sharper is to find a way to hammer out a deal with the Saints, play another season or two, then go to the broadcasting booth.

Here's my question. Where were all these people last year when no one would take Sharper? He goes to New Orleans and wins a Super Bowl and now all of these teams are flocking to bring him aboard. Do they think he will revive their franchise like they think he did ours? He was just the missing piece. We had Drew Brees and Coach Payton to thank for reviving the franchise. A team like Jacksonville, they need more than just a safety to consider themselves a playoff team.

Just my $0.02

Ok. If you can read this, I want to point something out here. If you notice, that in the 3 seasons, since he came into the league, where he had 9 interceptions, his tackle count solo, and combined are down. Where as the number of interceptions goes down, on the years where he has more tackles. Which should show you all what his strong point is right? He is a ball hawk. That's what he's been his entire career. Now I don't know about you, but I think it's been said by the best in the business, "Whoever wins the turnover battle, wins the game." Now, my point is this. Alot has been said about him missing tackles last year, which by my recollection, wasn't that many to begin with, but a legitimate concern none the less. If you look at his career stats, you will see, that he has never been "known" as a tackling machine, but a turnover specialist.

Now, with that said, at age 34, which everyone loves to point out on here, he had his best season for both categories with the Saints. He has solidified his HOF status, and I honestly think that he will be even better if allowed one more season in N.O. Look at the stats here, they don't lie. Now yes, he had his best season under GW, but the numbers from his other two 9 int seasons, aren't that far off.

Not giving him ANY credit, for putting fear in QBs minds, before playing us, is very unfair. And if you guys want to talk about the level of competition, as far as the QBs he faced, then go ahead. But tell me, how many veteran QBs are even left in the league right now? Not many. And we will be facing some more rookies in the coming season. Do we really want to let this guy get away? Knowing what he brings to the table?

Well Saintfan, I've read a "few" people in here, that have basically came right out and said, that Sharper's success last year, had more to do with GW's system, than his talent as a safety. Which in their opinion, makes him expendable. I won't name names....
