Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?
Thinking ahead into the 2010 season, i was reading on several sites basically saying Saints were lucky to have RB's that pretty much can just relieve each other, but we basically have no one really significant..
Instead of getting angry about that because ahem.. we kinda ARE the world champions and stuff like that :) but i'd rather get fan's feedback on who you think will be the Saints Running back that will set the field on fire this year and become that Back we've always wanted.. Will it be Reggie or Pierre or will there be an unsung hero coming out of no where .... again? |
Re: Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?
I would say Pierre has the best chance at it because he gets more touches back there than anyone else. With that said, does it really matter if we have a 1,000 back? It's not like we need one to win a Superbowl. I'm absolutely fine with the way we've been running things on offense(as mostly everyone should be)... if it happens, great. If it doesn't, it wouldn't be a big deal.
I'll take option D - None of the above. |

I agree...Rushing yrds by committee seems to work for us..that said P.T would have the best chance as stated above...What if Reggie did it...would that shut up the naysayers?

Re: Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?
I just don't see us having a 1000 yard rusher. Sean is pass-happy and Brees is just too good. We need only run enough to make teams think we might.
That said, if we DO have a 1000 yard rusher, it'll be PT. |
Re: Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?
With Brees hitting the 40 throw mark several times during the season, I don't think it will happen. PT gets the most touches and that's only about 12 per game. Duece hit 1000 with nearly 20 per game. None of our backs will average 20 per game with Brees doing what he does. They may have 1000+ all purpose yards, but on the ground, 600-800 tops.

Re: Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?
no.....we went away from the run late in the season and it hurt us
the other 3 seasons under payton we were a prodominantly passing team with deuce barely eclipsing 1000 yards and i dont see us having near a 1000 yard rusher anytime soon id love to see us pound the ball and control the clock a little more and force other teams to play a little defense but our team just doesnt do that |

Pierre Thomas.
Bush gets hurt yet again, and PT is given the bulk of the carries and just nudges past 1,000 yards, and makes the pro-bowl. All Pierre needed last season was a measly 12 yards more per game, which is just over 2 more carries per game. |

Pierre Thomas 2009 - 793 yards, (or 207 yards short of 1,000 yards) OK, so its actually 12.9 yard more per game, which like I said is just over 2 more carries per game. |

Passing offense. Running game by committee. Backs with durability issues. No 1000 yard rusher.

Who knows, since we already accomplished the greatest goal in football, maybe Sean Payton may change things up a bit and go more toward the ground, especially since Bree's will now be a walking target, Drew has nothing to prove anymore, But Sean Payton can prove to all he's not strictly an air guy and can switch it up and ground play like any other great team, this coach has proven he's not as stupid or predictable as we all might think he is.

Player: Drew Brees Attemps: 514 Completions: 363 Yards: 4388 Comp %age: 70.6 (NFL Record!) Yards/Att: 8.5 TDs: 34 TD %age: 6.6 INTs: 11 INT %age: 2.1 QB rating: 109.6 Overall these stats show a ball control offense. The high completion %age and number of TDs, along with the Yards/Att indicate that the Saints offense, get the ball, keep the ball, and put the ball into the endzone. The 11 INTs show that they don't turn the ball over much. QBs are ultra accurate. Receivers cannot be touched. There are only a few D. Revis type players in the league. You can pick on the rest all day long. The running game is a complement. Keeps the D-line from just rushing up the field and creates indecision with the linebackers. Also creates play action opportunities. So you need the balance, I agree. But there's no need for 3 yards and a cloud of dust type rushing attack in today's NFL anymore. 8.6 yards per attempt. Over 12 yards per completion. Passing is the way to move the ball as long as the QB is accurate, protects the ball, and the line can protect him. And the vast majority of the time, that's exactly what the Saints offense does. So no 1000 yard back. And no need for one. SFIAH |
Re: Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?
Due to the offensive scheme and its complexity----it would be difficult for anyone to gain a thousand yard on the ground individually.....the ball is distributed to too many players...But thats whatt sweet about it...cause it works.

I don't think 1K yds. means as much nowadays as it did when they only played 14, anyway.

With the way Reggie was running towards the second half of last year, I think his carries increase having Thomas fall just shy of the mark.

if he gets the fat contract i would'nt be suprized if they add the carries to his role

PT has the ability but we use a 3 headed monster!! Given the carries PT can BUT I think SP continues to spilit carries among RB, PT & LH.

Re: Will the Saints have a running back rush for over 1,000 yards this regular season? If so, who will it be?
Pierre Thomas is the most likely. He shares carries with other backs so much though that considering him the "feature back" is not exactly accurate. I think he can get close, but may fall just short. I think Bush could definitely have a big year where he averages 5+ yds a carry, but Bush gets so many touches in other parts of the game that handing off to him enough for 1000 yds may be a bit much. I think Bush could get 600-800 yds(though towards the 800 side may be pushing it) on a good year(in the way we use him). If he was used like a regular every down back maybe.
For some reason I have a feeling that our running game is gonna be used more even than it was last year. Our offense was the best when we were feeding the backs consistently. |
