Saints release Bobby McCray

Saints released DE Bobby McCray.

The move seems surprising at first glance because McCray worked with the first-team defense throughout OTA season in the wake of Charles Grant's release, but realistically he was never going to beat out Alex Brown. McCray, 29 before the season, managed just 1.5 sacks in 16 games last year. The Saints will move forward with Brown at left end, likely as an every-down player. McCray's release takes the team off the hook for his $2 million salary.

The source was rotoworld and if indeed this is true, more details should come shortly. Given his salary and lack of production, this move does not surprise me one bit. Good luck to him... he got a ring and was paid well during his tenure as a Saint.

Saints creating room for Brees' deal. That's $3.4MM for Jammal Brown no longer on the books and now another $2MM for McCray we don't owe not either.
I just think the personnel people don't like one dimensional players, which McCray was. I will miss him for the simple fact that he wrecked Favre's ankle in the NFC Champ game. Crucial play.

I'm w stockman on this one.

Depth is an issue at the moment though:

Starters: Smith and Brown
Rotation: Charleston and Wilkerson (who may not be ready for the start of the season)
UDFA signings: Galette and Sharpe - both considered undersized for the DE 4-3 position.

The good news is that we still have Hargrove.

We may seem slim here at the moment, but I'm sure Gregg has his eyes on other players.

I'll bet w pick up someone's cast off before camp.

The Saints also dumped him it seems to avoid the $1.25MM roster bonus he is due in 10 Days.

McCray was evidently shocked by the news.
