New Orleans Saints position series: Cornerbacks
In anticipation of the New Orleans Saints upcoming training camp, we will be running a series of online position-by-position breakdowns with our bests guesses as to who will make the final 53-man roster. Along with these breakdowns, we will also run interactive polls so that the voice of Who Dat Nation can be heard.
For the New Orleans Saints in 2010, the focus will be less on plugging roster holes than on correctly managing the talent that general manager Mickey Loomis and head coach Sean Payton have assembled. Read the rest here... New Orleans Saints position series: Cornerbacks | NOLA.com |
Re: New Orleans Saints position series: Cornerbacks
The addition of Robinson means that either Randall Gay or Leigh Torrence could be on the bubble. There is almost no difference between the two in terms of size or age (both players are 5-feet-11 and 28 years old), but Gay has been significantly more productive over the course of his career and was one of the only Saints player to have won a Super Bowl before last season's run.
The argument against Gay is largely financial: he is scheduled to make 2.5 million in 2010 as opposed to the $630,000 owed to Torrence. Torrence has played well on special teams, but is something of an injury concern, having missed almost all of last season with a shoulder injury. I would say Gay is a better player then Torrence. |
Re: New Orleans Saints position series: Cornerbacks
Yer agreed QBREES9, Randall gay isn't the best nickel corner out there but he does bring things to the table. Plus in the divisional game vs the cards, i believe randall gay made the play that gave the D the fire it needed, When he forced the fumble and sharper recovered it. Plus GW started working malcolm jenkins in at nickel at certain situations. I'd love to see patrick robinson get on the field this year, but until malcolm moves to safety i think he has the nickel spot for the minute

Re: New Orleans Saints position series: Cornerbacks
Gay just makes too much money. Wouldn't be opposed to cutting and resigning him for less money.

Maybe Randall will re-structure his contract, and cutting and re-signing him won't become necessary. I do think that, because of injuries, Leigh Torrence is probably the CB who will be cut loose. Patrick Robinson, even if he doesn't show much in TC, is a first rounder, and as such will be given every chance. |
Re: New Orleans Saints position series: Cornerbacks
I agree Leigh Torrence is prob gonna be the odd man out. Hopefully Gay can restructure his contract.. or maybe we could work out a trade for a linebacker with one of the 2 plus a mid round pick. GEAUX SAINTS
