Danneaux’s 53 man Roster

My 53 man roster, subject to change because I always forget someone, or change my mind…

QB - 3 - Brees / Ramsey / Daniel
RB - 4 - Thomas / Bush / Ivory / Betts
FB - 1 - Evans
TE - 3 - Shockey / Thomas / Graham
OL-S - 5 - Bushrod / Nicks / Goodwin / Evans / Stinchcomb
OL-BU - 3 - Brown / Tennant / Strief
WR - 6 - Colston / Meachem / Moore / Henderson / Arrington / Roby

DT - 4 - Ellis / Ayodele / Hargrove / Pressley
DE - 4 - Smith / Brown / Wilkerson / Gallett
OLB - 4 - Shanle / Casillas / Dunbar / Evans
MLB - 3 - Vilma / Mitchell / Arnoux
CB - 5 - Greer / Porter / Robinson / Gay / Jones
S - 5 - Sharper / Harper / Jenkins / Young / Vaughn

K - 1 - Hartley
P - 1 - Morstead
LS - 1 - Kyle

Key cuts – Prielou, Reis, Al Wood, PJ Hill, Waters

We may keep 9 O-linemen, meaning we cut the 4th RB or 6th WR

We keep Pressley over Wood. I think they can sneak Wood onto the practice squad.

We may decide to keep Charleston, which mean we probably risk losing Reggie Jones. Placing Sharper on the PUP changes things

foreverfan 08-23-2010 07:54 AM

Well thought out Danno, and I could live with that. I think other teams will pluck players like Charleston, Wood, Pressley & Arrington from our Superbowl roster.

I like it Danneaux....and u kept Gallett....most folks think he doesnt make it..im hoping this the way we head into the season

You've done a great job with your 53. I can't suggest many changes to that, but I'll through out my preferred practice squad.

RB-Chris Ivory
WR-Larry Beavers
OT-Jeremey Parnell
OG-Brandon Carter
DE-Junior Galette
DT-Jay Ross
LB/SS-Harry Coleman
CB-Reggie Jones

Obviously my practice squad suggests there would be some differences in my 53, but not many.

No way Galette and Ivory would make it thru the waiver wire...swap Hill for Ivory...

You might be right about those guys. After losing Hill last year I wouldn't expect him to stick around long either, though.

I would hate to lose Hill as well....man we have some depth for a change...lol

I just think Gallett has the pass rush ability gregg Williams can use as a lethal weapon on passing situations.

I think Williams has some big plans for him in certain packages. You can basically pull a Jeff Charleston off the street or off someone's practice squad, but guys with pass rush skills like Gallett's are hard to find.

I do like Jeff Charleston, he's "good" at just about everything, but great at nothing.

Good show, Danno. Looks good to me. I would like to see Hill beat out Betts if there is room for a fourth RB.

The WR's cuts will be tough. When I first looked at your list I thought that Roby should have been left off but after consideration I think that the guy is a great special-teamer, worthy of a roster spot.

I haven't seen much of Woods at the DT position but I really want to see him take a roster spot there at least as a backup. Pressley looks like he's getting better there so I certainly wont argue that DP belongs there. I think that Young and Jones in the secondary are in danger of losing their job so maybe Woods or another O-lineman make the 53.

I actually liked that the Saints brought in Ramsey at QB last month. He has shown flashes of a good/talented QB in the past but I don't see him as the 2nd string QB and wonder if the Saints will keep three QB's on the roster. Lance Moore will be the 3rd stringer.

The thing I like about Betts is his reputation as a great pass-protector/blocker, a solid short yardage guy and a hard worker with a great team first attitude.

He may only have a year or two left in the tank, but if he's fully recovered from his injury, he's our 3rd best back hands down, and probably our best RB if we're trying to run out the clock on someone.

This is very important

Very good Danno. But i'm concerned about Bett's knee. I don't know if he can last for 16 games without reenjurying it.

I really like the list Danno. It's well thought out and concise. My only question is will they keep three MLBers? Keeping tose three Vilma, Mitchell and Arnoux is a pretty good hit against the 53 man roster. I was wondering if we would keep three MLBers and four OLBers?

SapperSaint 08-23-2010 11:55 AM

Bobby McCray?????

Gone. Unless they keep 9 DL. Wilkerson replaces McCray.

Well its misleading, since Mitchell actually plays all 3 LB positions, and Arnoux is actuall lining up as an OLB, although I think he's best suited for a MLB in a 4-3.

I think we kept 7 LB's last year.

SmashMouth 08-24-2010 02:19 PM

Good list ... not sure they keep a third QB .. .which means they cut Ramsey ... like Charleston, they can pick up another vet QB if Ramsey gets picked up. And we'll see if Betts has anything left in the third preseason game, or he gets cut too, or maybe go with three backs. Woods goes on the PS as well as Carter.

QBREES9 08-25-2010 12:49 AM

Danno, great job very well thought out.

bobad 08-25-2010 08:27 AM

Good roster Danno.

It's just as much about "how many" as it is "who". If we knew how many Payton would keep at each position, we could guess a lot more accurately about who will make the team.

WR, OL, RB, DL are all up in the air. We may even keep 1 less DB than usual and get a surprise cut from that position. We may only keep 2 QB's, trying to hide Daniel on the practice squad again. (good luck!)

I can see Ivory waived, and signed to the practice squad, but not Galette.

RBs are a dime a dozen, and can be found almost anywhere (I am not talking about the Barry Sanders, or Emmitt Smiths, or Eric Dickersons). I am talking about serviceable RBs. Good pass rushers, however, are exceptionally hard to find, which means Galette cannot be signed to the PS without other teams noticing (in fact, Galette would not clear waivers to be signed to the PS). That, and Gregg Williams' passing down rush packages, are the reasons I believe Galette WILL make the final 53.

If i had to choose between the two, I'd pick Gallett. But I think both make it. It takes a while for RB's to adjust to the system and Ivory's been in camp since day one.

He's looks to have more potential than servicable to me. He kinda reminds me of a poor man's Marion Barber. We need a guy like him behind Bush and Thomas so why not keep him as a 3rd RB or even a 4th?

And right now, who do you keep? Betts hasn't even played a down yet, and this new guy has an unattractive injury history.

Even if we only keep 3 (we kept 4 lst year), I think Ivory's the man unless he starts stinkin up the joint the next two weeks.

Cruize 08-25-2010 03:34 PM

QB - Brees, Daniel
RB - Thomas, Bush, Betts, Ivory
FB - Evans
WR - Colston, Henderson, Meachem, Moore, Arrington, Roby
TE - Shockey, Thomas, Graham, Humphrey
OT - Bushrod, Stinchcomb, Strief, Brown
OG - Evans, Nicks, Tennant
C - Goodwin, Leckey

DE - Smith, Brown, Charelston, McCray
DT - Ellis, Ayodele, Hargrove, Pressley
OLB - Shanle, Casillas, Dunbar, Waters, Arnoux
MLB - Vilma, Mitchell
CB - Porter, Greer, Gay, Robinson
S - Harper, Jenkins, Prioleau, Young, Reis

LS - Kyle
K - Hartley
P - Morstead

PUP - Sharper, Ingram

Practice Squad - Vaughn, Galette, Jones, Billings, Woods, Carter, Canfield, and 2 to be named later.

Arnoux and Reis are cuts in waiting. They could put Sharper on the 53 so he won't miss the first six. They absolutely could keep 3 QB's. Graham to IR is a real possibility. Woods making the 53 to have 5 DT's on the roster is not impossible. Hargrove and Pressley can play end so they may only keep 3 DE's in favor of an extra somewhere else.

Danno 09-03-2010 07:50 AM

My new guess...

QB - 2 - Brees / Daniel
RB - 4 - Thomas / Bush / Ivory / Betts / Wynn (if Ivory is IR’d)
FB - 1 - Evans
TE - 4 - Shockey / Thomas / Graham / Humphrey
OL-S - 5 - Bushrod / Nicks /Goodwin/Evans/Stinchcomb
OL-BU - 3 - Brown / Tennant / Strief
WR - 6 - Colston / Meachem / Moore / Henderson / Arrington / Roby

DT - 4 - Ellis / Ayodele / Hargrove / Clancy
DE - 5 - Smith / Brown / Wilkerson / / Charleston / Gallett
OLB - 4 - Shanle / Casillas / Dunbar / Ingram
MLB - 3 - Vilma / Mitchell / Arnoux
CB - 4 - Greer / Porter / Robinson / Gay /
S - 5 - Sharper / Harper / Jenkins / Young / Vaughn

K - 1 - Hartley
P - 1 - Morstead
LS - 1 - Kyle

Key cuts – Prielou, Reis, Al Wood, Pressley, Waters, McCray, Ramsey (can be re-signed if needed)

If Arnoux is cut, he at least has to make the practice squad. Earlier this off season, I think it was Shanle who said this guy would be a star.
