Saints training camp PJ Hill injured and out, DeShawn Wynn signed

Second-year running back PJ Hill was officially waived-injured and will end up being place on injured reserve (IR) just like Lynell Hamilton. Hill was injured during the fourth quarter of Saturday's game when he went down hard and did not return. Only word is that it is a triceps injury which will officially end his season.

To take the place of the injured Hill, the Saints signed former Green Bay Packers' running back DeShawn Wynn. Wynn is in his fourth season out of the University of Florida. Wynn had 332 yards and 5 rushing touchdowns in his three seasons with the Packers.

So now it will be up to Wynn to see how much action he can get in the final two preseason games as he steps into the competition for the third running back spot. Hill had been competing with Chris Ivory who now has to be believed to have the upper-hand as he is competing with the newly acquired Wynn and Ladell Betts who is recovering from an ACL injury. Perhaps it can be looked at as good that the starters (Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush) are escaping injury, but the offensive backfield is getting thin quickly.

Besides that one unfortunate incident, the injury front looked a lot better than it had been in the past week. Jonathan Stinchcomb and Usama Young both returned to practice. Oh, and Wynn was also already in pads and in practice this afternoon. He will wear #43 for the Saints.

The only ones sitting out today were Darren Sharper, Clint Ingram, Jimmy Graham, Stanley Arnoux, and of course PJ Hill who was actually on the sidelines. Sharper and Ingram did stretch with the team before jumping on the bikes. Graham was also on a bike, but his right foot is still in a boot.

Betts was in full pads yet again and said he is feeling very good and would actually like to play on Friday night in the Superdome against the San Diego Chargers. That is a decision that would still be up to the coaching staff.

As the Saints have now broken training camp and gone to more of the regular season schedule of one practice a day.

Lets get Betts on the field

I really am incredibly surprised that Betts MAY actually be on the field for this Friday's game with the Chargers. He has looked good in practice the few times he's been out on the field, but I still didn't expect him back at all during the preseason.

I guess the silver lining is that we're having injuries at the one position where there is the most solid help available in the NFL open market.

Fate is giving Ivory every chance in the world to make our roster.
