Clancy re-signed

Saints re-signed DT Kendrick Clancy to a one-year contract.

Clancy, 32, is a rotational run stopper who barely played last season due to a knee injury. He may be kept around until just before Week 1, when the Saints will likely release him instead of guaranteeing Clancy an $800K salary.

this signing makes no sense to the Sapper.

I agree - Call me "Ham" because... I don't get it!

QUE !!!!!

Danno 08-29-2010 09:19 PM

Injury insurance.

QBREES9 08-29-2010 09:24 PM

I can see that.

SmashMouth 08-29-2010 09:30 PM

Woods is a goner for sure.

QBREES9 08-29-2010 09:38 PM

Woods, ya think so. I thought Junior would be

Danno 08-29-2010 09:39 PM

On second thought, I'm reading reports that he's 100% healthy now.

IF he's truly 100% healthy, then he's immediately the 2nd best DT on the roster.

I'm skeptical that he's 100% healthy though.

QBREES9 08-29-2010 09:41 PM

LOL no ones 100% But hey if he feels great, so be it.

Veteran nose guard Kendrick Clancy is healthy again and has drawn interest from the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans and the New Orleans Saints, according to his agent, Ron Del Duca.

"He'll be playing somewhere soon," Del Duca indicated via his Twitter account. "Decision soon."

Clancy had surgery on his knee, but has recovered from the injury, per Del Duca.

Clancy, 31, played for the Saints for the past three seasons.

The 6-foot-1, 305-pound former Pittsburgh Steelers third-round draft pick has recorded 139 tackles, three forced fumbles and 5 1/2 sacks.

He was limited to two games last season because of the knee injury

hmmm, this may be excellent

I'd be really surprised if Woods is gone. You don't usually cut a player you just drafted. It could mean he's a backup instead of a starter, but he'll still be on the team. DT is supposed to be one of the harder positions to learn for new players, it takes time to get used to everything. They just might have seen that Woods might need some time to develop and have Clancy just for now or for injury insurance.

QBREES9 08-29-2010 09:47 PM

I like it.

If Healthy as Danno says he is the 2nd best DT on the team..so long Woods...sorry....good signing..we just got better against the run...

SapperSaint 08-30-2010 07:23 AM

we shall see. If he is truly healthy; I won't 100%, he might help out.

Ever hear of Antonio Pittman - 4R? Taylor Mehlhaff - 6R? Andy Alleman - 3R?

Payton maintains...it matters not how you got here, but rather what you do while you are here.

More than likely Woods will hit the practice squad..he is a work in progress..

darstep 08-30-2010 11:43 AM

Woods has looked pretty good from what I've seen...and it could be I haven't seen much at all on Thursday and Friday nights. Did not look like he was being man handled or getting pushed around. He seemed to hold his own. I wonder how thick the data sheets are on who will stay and who will go. Woods looked like a keeper to me........to me......

st thomas 08-30-2010 12:23 PM

i honestly did'nt watch much of his play but did catch some climpes that looked ok. he did stand his ground but it was on the wrong side and the ball carrier went by. you have to learn to drive opposite the pressure to plug the gap. they always said he were a work in process.so i agree he will bounce around the practice squad. clancy is insurance

Rugby Saint II 08-30-2010 12:32 PM

If he is able to get the pressure we need up the middle then I'm all for it. He knows the system and is probably insurance in case we are unable to find another DT.
