ESPN'S Mike & Mike Say Saints' Sean Payton Undeserving of Lofty Rank
ESPN's Mike Greenberg, co-host of ESPN Radio's Mike & Mike, jumped on the "Saints-hater" bandwagon early Thursday morning along with former Dallas Cowboys QB Troy Aikman and a growing cast of characters.
Earlier this week, Aikman said in Sporting News that "too many things need to go right" for the New Orleans Saints to repeat as Super Bowl champions and called the Saints' defense fortunate and below average. In the pre-dawn hours, Greenberg referenced an article in the Aug. 30 issue of Sporting News in which the magazine's editors and writes ranked NFL head coaches from one to thirty-two using a variety of criteria. Greenberg pointed out that New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton was ranked No. 2 by Sporting News in the coaches' rankings, then, added sarcastically, "I don't know if I agree with that." Saints QB Drew Brees told Sporting News,"(Payton's ranking is) well deserved. I mean it's hard to say who's No. 1. But you certainly can't argue with what Bill Belichick has done in his tenure there...With the exception of training camp. guys have fun here. So, I would say, more than anything, the way that Sean Payton is able to complement and combine that very disciplined, fair but stern attitude, with, Hey, we're doing to have fun, and we're going to enjoy what we do,' (Is what makes him a great coach)." In four years, Payton has transformed the league's biggest laughing stock into the Super Bowl Champions. He is unquestionably the most accomplished coach in the team's history. Payton led the New Orleans Saints to a victory over the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC Championship game followed by a Super Bowl win over Indianapolis. Payton is a member of an exclusive club: NFL Coach of the Year. But none of this is good enough for little Mike Greenberg who currently has a teenage girl crush on New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan. Yeah, Greenberg, I don't agree with Sean Payton being ranked No. 2 either. Frankly, I am shocked he wasn't ranked No. 1. Yet who are we to disagree with Greenberg who so astutely predicted a New York Giants win over the Saints in October 2009. It's time for our stone-cold lead pipe locks Golic...I'm starting with the Saints and the Giants big guy...The Saints are a three-point favorite...yuk yuk yuk...the Giants are 5-0...I'm taking the Giants to win straight-up Golic...ha ha ha ha...and ground the high-flying Saints...After all, Eli Manning's numbers on the deep ball are much better than Drew Brees..." Oh, by the way, the Saints won the game, 48-27. Almost made you feel sorry for the poor man's Bob Costas...Mike Greenberg. All I have to say is who the HELL R U 2 Idiots. Shut up !!!! just becasue you work for ESPN you think your Opinions mean anything. |
