2010 NFL week two power rankings: Saints take top spot, Texans and Ravens on the rise

Week one of the 2010 NFL season is a said to not bring about too much as to how exactly the season will go. Teams haven't had actual regular season game-time experience in about seven months. New players are still trying to get adjusted to their different surroundings and current roles. Coaches are learning exactly what they can expect from the chemistry the veterans and rookies or old and new players have together. Besides, as San Diego Chargers' quarterback Philip Rivers said after Monday night's loss to the Chiefs, "It's just one game."

Yes, it is one game but we learned a lot from the opening weekend of NFL games as all 32 teams stepped onto the field and showed the world just how ready they are to go after a championship. The defending Super Bowl champion Saints picked up right where they left off, but with a newly found defense. Donovan McNabb, now donning maroon and yellow, defeated the Cowboys in an unexpected struggle for Dallas. Even more surprising may be the lackluster effort by the AFC power houses as three of the remaining four teams left in the playoffs last season all lost their opening games.

With that, let's look at how the teams fared in the power rankings after getting their first taste of regular season action.

First number in parentheses is last week's ranking and the second is team record.

1.) New Orleans Saints (2) (1-0) - Drew Brees and the offense didn't come out and light it up like most of last season, but they did enough to win along with a stout defense and take down Brett Favre and the Vikings for a second straight time.

2.) Baltimore Ravens (6) (1-0) - So a 10-9 victory with hardly any offense isn't pretty, but it got the job done and they were missing a lot of players. That's a scary defense.

3.) Green Bay Packers (5) (1-0) - Can the Pack survive with the loss of running back Ryan Grant and giving up so much offensive yardage and points every week?

4.) New England Patriots (9) (1-0) - That was just an overly impressive win against the Bengals and Wes Welker looks like he hasn't lost a single step.

5.) Indianapolis Colts (1) (0-1) - Peyton Manning was pressured a lot but still put up over 400 yards of passing. If the Colts can somehow play a little defense then there won't be any more issues, but then again...Bob Sanders may be gone for yet another year.

How are the DOlts as high as 5 & the Ravings at 2nd - for beating the JETS!! The all talk no show Jets.

Sure they have a defense BUT no offense.

Sanchise is a joke.

Rex Ryan is loudmouthed, obnoxious, assface.

This is a voting process through the 32 team examiners on the site I write for...I simply put it all together as I'm the NFL Examiner over there now. I could not BELIEVE some of the voting...thank God for averages.

Yeah i don't agree with this poll

QBREES9 09-15-2010 11:02 PM

I don't believe in these polls

I don't necessarily agree with it either as I said, but it's amazing to see the differentials when bringing 32 people together to vote. And no, no-one showed any bias to their home team either which was good, but the end results still surprised me.

Saints and Texans are 1 and 2 in my polls

What a freakin' joke!

#1 is about right.
#2 as they say "10-9 victory with hardly any offense." How would that make them the #2 team?
#3 I'd put the Patsies and Texans ahead of the Packers.
#4 I'd put the Patsies at #2 or #3.
#5 An absolute Joke!
#6 How does the loser of that game finish ahead of the winner?
#7 Well the Vikings did play tough but there are many that should be ahead of them right now. They shouldn't be in Top 10.
#8 Ummmmm. Right now is a good time to face the Steelers but they did win.
#9 Another absolute joke!! They played like crap and the winner of that game is listed at #17! As they even say in the Redskins area "Dallas just really played that badly." Why are they even in top 10?!
#10 Not a bad win but not that impressive. Panthers had the lead through most of the game.

Teams that should be in the top 10... Titans, Jaguars, Seahawks.

Teams that don't belong in top 10... Cowpies, Gnats, Vikings.

Honorable mentions... Chiefs, Lions,

Another thing... why are Rams, Browns and Bills, below the Retards? Rams played tough and at least the other two weren't humiliated on national TV!
I think this sentence explains it... "Maybe it's asking too much but I expected a lot more out of the Raiders in week one." Why? New Quarterback, same ol' sorry offensive line and franchise. You can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig!

Yeah the Chiefs should be over the Chargers

Somebody must have messed up. They have the Saints at number 1. Shouldn't we be the only ones that think we're the best? How do we stay under the radar with all this attention?
