grady jackson injured
DT Grady Jackson, who is enjoying a standout season after slumping in 2002, underwent surgery Oct. 23 to repair a torn ligament in his left pinkie finger and his status for Sunday's game against Carolina is uncertain. Jackson suffered the injury in the second quarter of last Sunday's victory at Atlanta and, since the injury did not seem serious at the time, returned to the game. An MRI exam on Oct. 20 revealed the torn ligament. The hope is that Jackson, who some scouts feel is playing at a Pro Bowl level, will be able to practice by Friday. If he can't play, Jackson will be replaced by third-year veteran Kenny Smith, and the club would probably activate Kenderick Allen for the contest.
