Hattiesburg doctor a celebrity after winning Saints Super Bowl ring

HATTIESBURG, MS. - A neurologist from Hattiesburg is the winner of the Saints Super Bowl Ring Raffle, and he was the last to know it.
"I was watching the game on DVR," Dr. Scott Lynn recalled. "I was about 30 minutes behind live TV. I had taken my son to a Cub Scouts meeting and I had a little catching up to do, and the next thing I know, my phone starts going crazy."
Text messages told him he was the big winner, so he fast forwarded the game to ABC Sportscaster Mike Tirico saying, "Christopher Lynn of Hattiesburg, Mississippi is doing backflips right now because he's getting one of these."
Tirico made the announcement late in the third quarter.
Dr. Lynn's first name is Christopher, but he goes by Scott.
"This will be something my son will have forever," Dr. Lynn said.
Saints Quarterback Drew Brees came up with the idea to raffle off a ring with proceeds helping Gulf Coast oil spill disaster recovery.
The Saints Super Bowl ring appraised for $12,500. The ring raffle raised more than $1.5 million dollars.
"Tremendous, it's such an outpouring," Saints owner Rita Benson Leblanc said. "The appreciation is immense from our organization, but it's amazing the global reach.”

The Saints sold nearly 50,000 raffle tickets worldwide, but the winner lives in Hattiesburg.
Dr. Scott Lynn grew up in the Atlanta area as a Falcons fan, but after moving to Hattiesburg eleven years ago, he caught black and gold fever.
Dr. Lynn now splits Saints season tickets with his business partners.
He bought $75 worth of chances for the Super Bowl Ring.
"I thought it was a good cause," Dr. Lynn said. "That was the big reason I bought it."
Scott Lynn's name will actually be engraved into the side of the ring, so it will take roughly six weeks to get his ring ready. According to the Saints, Dr. Lynn will be presented his ring during a ceremony at a Saints game later this season.
"It was very surreal," Dr. Lynn added. "It's hard to believe. I've heard from people all over the world that I know and went to college with. Everyone's calling to congratulate me and email me, and I think I've used up all my minutes this month."
Next up for Dr. Lynn, he must decide on what finger to wear it.
