What I'm Worried About

I'm not worried about our players abilities, and not even Hartley. But there's one thing that keeps getting me. It's how we start, and end. It seems we come out hot on O and D, even giving the idea of a blowout game and then something breaks down. I'm not sure what's causing it, maybe mental mistakes, wrong plays, but something is.

What's causing us to have "ugly" wins and even our loss to the dirty birds is our "simmering". I guess the best way to approach it is "steady and slow wins the race". That's what happened to us. We came out, stopped the birds, scored a quick 7 and simmered away like someone turned the stove off on that delicious gumbo.

I feel everything is in place for a repeat, the only problem is not losing the "edge" 6 minutes into the game. Last year we'd come back after half and have the luck of a Saint, but luck isn't going to keep us in anymore.

I looked at the sched by the way, and we have what I'd call a "rebuilding" period till we hit the Steelers, which will be fun ;).

WHO DAT!

SapperSaint 09-27-2010 12:44 PM

I am worried about the following:

Washington D.C.
Global Cooling
Tea prices in China
Lumps
Colon exams
laser eye surgery
diabeties

I hear you we seem to start good and then auto pilot with conservativeness until its almost too late then we kick it in gear. It is not like SP or GW to not go for the jugular. After that first td I thought GW was going to bring tha dogs on them birds.

QBREES9 09-27-2010 01:27 PM

Man It's just one loss, relax.

winmill1 09-27-2010 01:28 PM

No I am not freaking out. It just seems that we are less aggressive this year thus far

well DUNGY seems to think were still partying or have the hangover, we lost that game because of a missed field goal. nobody was right yesterday on our team, offense, defense, special team/kicker. and still hear what i'm saying we battled to stay in the game and still should have won a game that we were horrible on defense. that off tackle dive then bump outside has been eating us for 3 years. and we still can't defend it, but we've won those games too when we had takeaways.we are still a better team then atlanta, we missed a lousey gloriffied extra freakin point man. let me change my blown fuse.

Choupique 09-27-2010 02:49 PM

just think if hartley would've made that kick how different the tone would be.
throwing the baby out with the bath water never gets much accomplished.

it is just one kick. it was just one loss.

i have faith and believe in the staff and the team... WAY more than I have faith in some fans.

fairweather fans are not actual fans.

What...me worry?

Well I'm not a fairweather fan, trust me. I've basically said "we'll win the superbowl" every year, shook my fist, and continued on for years.

But, it seems, note I said seems, we have a different swagger. I've felt it since pre-season.

Ok How many times and how many languages can you say NOT FREAKING OUT NOT PANICKING. WOW. To say that we are not as aggressive as last year, does that sound crazy.

SaintPauly 09-27-2010 09:19 PM

To me it seems, that when the offense is playing well, the defense slacks off. And when the defense is playing well, the offense seems to slack off. They don't seem to play well at the same time.

In my mind, we are 3-0...but we got penalized 1 game because our kicker all the sudden this year got "Steve Sax disease."

This is referred to in baseball terminology as "Steve Sax Syndrome", the fielder's variant of "Steve Blass disease", named after the Pirates pitcher who suffered a similar breakdown of basic mechanics. As his accuracy suffered, fans sitting behind the first base dugout began wearing batting helmets as mock protection. (Teammate Pedro Guerrero, an outfielder pressed into service at third base in 1983, once reportedly stated that his first thought whenever he was in the field was "I hope they don't hit it to me," while his second thought was "I hope they don't hit it to Sax.") By 1989, however, Sax seemed to be completely "cured", leading the American League in both fielding percentage and double plays.

I swear the following is true.

After I made my comment, I went to google to see if there really is a term, "Steve Sax disease", and low and behold...there it is. When I went to type it in the search box, I got as far as "Steve Sax di"...and it finished it for me.

OMG let's hope Hartley doesn't have Steve Sax Disease or Knoblauchitis or he won't make it to the bye week.

I think, on the defensive front seven , the problem is a lack of talent. Smith and Ellis are very good on the D-Line. Vilma is a very good. Everyone else is either average, below average, or unproven....or they've proven to be terrible.

xan 09-28-2010 07:52 AM

I'm worried about:

Anger and extremism as a foundation for political governance.
China manipulating our currency.
Willful ignorance.
Unjustifiable tax breaks for the top 3%.

Porter and Harper's injuries. Those absenses Sunday were the primary cause for alarm. Too many rookies in the defensive backfield made GW's gameplan limited and gave Ryan too much time to pick us apart.

Cover 4. We cannot dominate the line of scrimmage, we cannot defeat the cover 4. Brees needs time, at least 3.5 seconds, to make a 10 yard pass running through progressions, and he's not getting it against a 4 man front. Something is wrong here.

Agreed Xan. It seems everyone is playing the game a little different this year. The defense is a little different this year. Not sure if it is because Sharper isn't back there or if we are really missing Fuji. I'm not going to panic, but it would be nice to have Sharper, Bush and a Fujita clone back.

I think the Saints will start hitting on all cylinders soon. Starting with the Panthers game.
