Brees has fracture and torn meniscus?

Kenny Wilkerson of WIST radio in New Orleans reports that Drew Brees has been playing with a fracture and a torn meniscus in his left knee.

Wilkerson is citing what he says is an "impeccable source," and that the information is "100 thousand-trillion-million percent" accurate. He also added that the pain sometimes causes Brees to make mistakes when calling or executing plays and that it's possible the quarterback could need microfracture surgery at some point. Brees injured the knee back in Week 3 and the Saints referred to it only as a sprain, but it sounds like they might be covering up a bigger issue. He's been picked off more often than normal this season, but overall Brees' fantasy production hasn't been significantly affected by the injury. Nov. 4 - 1:08 pm et

Huh? Just get us through the year drew

Dasidreidia 11-04-2010 12:34 PM

If he's that vehement about it being true, then A) it really is true. or B )it's complete bullcrap.

I KNEW IT!!!!! We all knew it!!! We've been talking about this for a while now. Im not happy, please don't take me wrong, but I said he didn't look like himself, and something was wrong.

jshockeyfan 11-04-2010 01:10 PM

Let's not forget that his source was someone from inside the offensive huddle. I find it hard to believe that any one of them would risk discussing Brees' knee. I figured that would be a big no-no from within the Saints organization.

I appreciate the accolades strat, but my name isn't Choupique. I love everybody in here, even if my opinion isn't the same as theirs. :)

I agree. But until he drops his "holier than thou" attitude, I have no interest in reading it.

RaginCajun83 11-04-2010 01:32 PM

Considering the source KW and the fact Brees was seen kicking field goals after practice, I don't buy it for a second besides if he was that injuried wouldn't the Saints shut him down?

This is more than likely. However I've found it interesting that how sensitive people are seems to be in direct correlation to how the team is doing. Last year during the 13-0 streak it was pretty hard to get people too worked up so to speak. Then, after we lost a few, emotions seemed to run tighter. But during the playoffs and SB run, everyone was chummy again. Previous years seemed to be that way as well. Probably an oversimplification, but that's my take.

SapperSaint 11-04-2010 02:14 PM

If this is true it would explain alot about his play.

dizzle88 11-04-2010 02:17 PM

It might not be as serious as this guy says but something is a miss in brees' game, take the pick vs steelers, the long pass drew could make with his eyes closed in 2008 and 2009 season, seemed like he is underthrowing deep routes, which could be due to a injured knee and not being able to plant properly.

AmishManjina 11-04-2010 02:30 PM

Coach Sean Payton called a report that Drew Brees was hiding a fracture and a torn meniscus in his left knee "inaccurate" and "completely false."

Kenny Wilkerson of WIST radio was adamant that his source was impeccable and the report correct. There were rumors at the time (Week 3) that Brees' knee injury was more serious than the Saints were letting on. Payton does have a record of being less than forthcoming with injury information. Whatever the case, the injury wasn't serious enough to knock Brees out of the lineup and he's now over the worst of it.

Hopefully we can all breathe a sigh of relief!!

11toby 11-04-2010 02:31 PM

Not trying to hate but didn't Kenny Wilkerson get kicked off team property when Sean Peyton found out he was bribing insiders for info? Or he was selling info?

I think this is dangerous and could get someone fired inside the organization, true or not. Also, suspect Wilkerson is playing this up for his own publicity. Just trying to point this out. Don't know if it's true or not.

Highly dubious. Impeccable sources might have been trying to smoke him out as a rat.

Which KW is, but very good point Xan.

st thomas 11-04-2010 03:13 PM

is'nt wilkerson a employee of the saints, anyway if the kicking field goals is true its all bs. but all the under thrown balls is still suspect. especially the meachum one where if drew hits him in stride its a 60 yd td.

mikesaintfan 11-04-2010 03:23 PM

his left knee is not the plant foot......just sayin

AsylumGuido 11-04-2010 03:42 PM

After practice today Brees was told about this bogus story and he just laughed it off and started doing jumping jacks and deep knee bends at his locker. He was also seen drop kicking filed goals after practice.

This Wilkerson guy is a known hack who got fired from WWL for making up falsified stories.

nutria 11-04-2010 03:47 PM

Lets hope he is well, and the defense will play like it played against the Steelers and all will be well.

No need to HOPE he is well. He is absolutely the healthiest he has been all season. Read this tweet from ...

This report on Brees is so laughably inaccurate that I'm not even going to try and explain why it's wrong.

papz 11-04-2010 04:01 PM

Drew Brees laughed off a "false" report that he has a fracture and torn meniscus in his left knee.

Brees mocked the WIST radio report, saying he's "a hundred million billion trillion percent sure" it would hurt if he tried to drop-kick a football "with a broken knee." Brees also went into a jumping-jacks routine at his locker to prove to reporters that his knee is healthy. Told that his arm strength has been questioned on deep balls, Brees replied, "I'd like to watch film with those people." Beat writer Jeff Duncan deems the original report "laughably inaccurate." Funny quoting a guy at 4:17pm at 4:00pm

Saint-Paul 11-04-2010 04:13 PM

I will say this...I see a good sense of reasonable fans on this site as opposed to other Saints sites and even espn comments. Most of what I read is Kenny bashing and emotional rants about what somebody feels. From what I've read and heard about Kenny is that he does in fact have sources within the locker room and in the past the sources were fired from the staff and Kenny was booted (forced to resign) from WWL Saints Radio...dont think the Saints dont pay for that show, if you even want to call it a show. It's more a show of commercials than anything. I dont really give a crap whether the report of Drew's knee is accurate or not. I was happy with his performance in the biggest game of our year. This gives us a tremendous amount of confidence and momentum heading in to the break and subsequently to the latter half of the season. I would have more trust in rumors than I would in Sean Payton's injury report to be frankly honest. All i care about is the game and making plays, and winning.

"100 thousand-trillion-million percent" and this guy is an ADULT? He's the bestus there izzz!! Even bester than that!!! As a famous child is so fond of saying "GOOD GRIEF!"

Danno 11-04-2010 06:57 PM

I really liked Kenny. He was funny, insightful and had a great radio voice. Its a shame whats happened to him.

It even more shameful that the current guys are worse.

ScottF 11-04-2010 08:58 PM

Not a good day to be Kenny Wilkerson. His report saying that Drew Brees is hiding a torn meniscus knee injury has been met with ridicule and skepticism from not only Sean Payton but from Peter King, Jeff Duncan, and most of the sporting news world. Payton called the report "completely false" and Drew Brees not only laughed it off but did jumping jacks in front of his locker today to show that his knee is fine. OUCH! Even if Wilkerson was truly onto something about this injury and the Saints are doing a great job of hiding it, this causes his credibility to take a big hit. No one really believes Payton anymore when it comes to team injuries, but the display Drew put on at his locker was pretty convincing. Better luck next time, Kenny.

Where are the facts. Thank god he wrong. That a great quote

You have to question anything Kenny Wilkerson says about the Saints.
I remember listening to him in the late 90's and could not stand him.
From what I understand, he didn't earn his stripes being a reporter for WWL, it had more to do with with his connections. Maybe he's right, but just the manner in which he delivers his information is suspect. At the end of the day though, they just beat the #1 defense. Injured or not, Brees was money Sunday night.

Well, I stand HAPPILY CORRECTED. Love Mr. Brees too much, for him to play hurt.

Joker 11-06-2010 07:29 AM

The only problem that Drew has is inconsistent O-line play causing him to rush a little, and some bad luck against Cleveland.

When I first read this report last week that was the quote that jumped out at me and made me realize that this was "100 thousand-trillion-million percent" wrong. When you have to exagerate like that to get your point across then something is really wrong with whatever it is you are trying to "sell."
Besides, unless I've missed them, I haven't seen or heard of any of the major sports reports saying anything about this.

CheramieIII 11-06-2010 11:07 AM

I know the injury maybe real but I'm very leary of when it really happened. I guess it doesn't matter anyway. Get us to the Superbowl again and have surgery after the season is over. He probably hurt his knee jumping up and down after the Superbowl win.

I would posit that any division game is bigger than a inter-conference game. It was important in the sense that the offense played like total crap the prior week. Just sayin' is all.

It really didn't seem to bother him last week. I think Drew might need to buy his O-Line a Rolex or two. Well if they start playing like they did last year.
