Carolina WCCB affiliate News: Saints fans adorne Sam Mills statue with Saints gear after the game

Here's the thread:
Sam Mills Statue adorned with Saints gear - Carolina Panthers Message Board

Here's some quotes:

Quote:

We shouldn't talk bad about them though, they're still recovering from their hurricane lol. *cue chessy montage*
Quote:

its sad that u sorry ass fans that live there would let them do that
Quote:

Another low point. The visitors just came and straight up jacked BoA. Smh, and the fans let them do it?
Quote:

Does it matter?
They obviously don't feel strong enough about him in New Orleans to do something like that.
We do.
He chose to be here. Not there.
Not seeing what the issue is here.

Especially when 90% of Saint's fans these days likely couldn't even tell you who he is.
Quote:

This pisses me off more than anything that happens on the field. Let's get drunk.
Quote:

Speaks volumes about Saints fans. not surprised.
Quote:

Whatever they did, the intent was hate, not out of respect for him. They've had to feel insulted that we claimed him as our own and put up a statue of him after all the years he played for them... And now he's pretty much remembered for his time with us.

LOL!

Sam Mills was, is, and always will be a New Orleans Saint. Key part to the best LB corps of all time, according to NFL Network, and the fans that voted. The Dome Patrol! Last time I checked, the Panthers play in a stadium. Nuff said.

SaintPauly 11-08-2010 12:56 AM

I like the one "90% of Saints fans don't know who Sam Mills is". I agree, that the BANDWAGON FANS, don't know who he is, but the die hards, the ones who have been through it since the 70s, 80s, and 90s, definately know who he is. Not relevant until Brees and Bush? Here's someone that has no idea what he is talking about. During the Dome Patrol days, we NEVER had a losing season. And I'm sorry, but showing up to the prom, is not the same as going home with the prom queen. We have the ring, they don't. We stomped them, in their house, and their "die hard" fans, were leaving at half time, because lord knows they certainly don't have a "bandwagon" right now.

Aint's? The only "ain't" I see today, is on the final score. As in the Panthers "aint" scored a touchdown the entire game.

Which brings me to wonder, what is the cost of putting up such a statue?

Wampus Cat. You from Leesville, LA?

RaginCajun83 11-08-2010 08:17 AM

That's awesome

there is no way a bunch of bandwagon fans would do something like that cause they would have no clue that Sam Mills even played for the Saints. I'm sure Panther fans would do the same thing if the roles were reversed and they beat the Saints in New Orleans and there was a satute in front of the Superdome so they really need to stop whining about it

saintpaul, you are on a roll with some great posts lately, brother.

dizzle88 11-08-2010 11:31 AM

Panthers fans just peeved because Sam Mills was the heart and soul of the Dome Patrol, He was at his best in his career when he was with us and he will always be remembered AS A SAINT, NOT A PANTHER.
Oh yeh and they also peeved cuz we just handed out 34 ass whoopings to them.

BIGEASY504 11-08-2010 11:54 AM

Carolina fans just shut up take the loss and we'll see you next year. No matter where a player goes the Saints fans will always remember where he's been and the DOME PATROL WILL FOREVER BE ETCHED IN THE HEARTS AND MINDS OF THE WHODAT NATION!!! Panthers move on please!!!!

SapperSaint 11-08-2010 12:25 PM

Whoever has some kinda connection with the team... we need to have a "Dome Patrol" statue out in front. All four need to be represented.

That's a great idea, and it should be done. How do we get it started?

I know Jessica Holly, the chick on the WGNO news...took her to a dance in high school - and yes, I'm bragging. LOL. You guys want to start an online petition or something? Maybe we can get her to do a quick blurb or get their sports people involved?

This really should happen. :bng:

Saintlyone 11-08-2010 01:54 PM

I have an authentic Sam Mills jersey from the 91 season. Sat in front of a Panther fan at the bar I go to to watch the games. He never said a word to me. Either he didn't have a clue who "Field Mouse" was or he just knew better not to start something.

Thought he was always a member of the Dome patrol. He did go to the Panthers later in his career and Carolina helped build their franchise around him like a hero... which I don't have a problem with but he is known for his play as a field general with the Saints.

I think it would be cool to get fans energized to get some type of statue or Honor of our great Dome Patrol..
We also need to have our Superbowl legends in future immortalization somewhere around the city as well.

I say set up a petition and lets run it through the Saints fans sites, get Fox 8 *Which is owned by the Benson family* and lets see what can be done.

A petition would be great but even better would be collecting. Take a bucket with a lid and slice a narrow hole in the lid. Then stand outside the Superdome on a gameday and ask passers by for $1. Most anybody could afford to donate a dollar and I bet that would draw a lot of money. If you would have some money to begin with I bet a petition would go a lot easier. With that said I would like a statue of Mr Benson too. And I would like it befor he passes, he's getting up there in age.

Oh, the stories I could tell...

UK_WhoDat 11-08-2010 04:07 PM

Sam Mills is a Saint, period

st thomas 11-08-2010 04:16 PM

sounds like a great idea, DP is and will be hero's forever in true saints fans hearts all over the world. i don't know holly but she sounds like a great place to start banging doors. i also saw KW collecting pocket change at the dome on sundays already so hit him up for some of those. lol

mighty12 11-08-2010 06:51 PM

Panthers fans know about as much about football as the pope knows about the female body. Living in N.C. The past couple years, I have learned that. They have terrible fans, and I dislike them very much. Could be that I am around a lot of them. Go boo yourselves kittens.

iceshack149 11-08-2010 08:43 PM

It's difficult to generalize fans. There are some Saints fans representing our beloved team as jack wagons just like any other team. I remember the Saints going to Carolina after the storm and most of the fans in the stadium were very supportive and classy.

That said, I loathe Seattle fans...

SaintPauly 11-09-2010 12:07 AM

If we are going to have the Dome Patrol, which I whole heartedly agree with, then I'm going to have to throw in Archie Manning as well. This man not only carried the entire franchise on his back for many years, he has also been an ambassador, and patriarch of the city of New Orleans itself his entire life. I have never met the man, but I have alot of love for him, and his entire family. Number 8, will always be my hero. But I'm down for whatever you guys want to do. Let me know.

Well I guess but he paid for that himself. To get a statue in ones honor is quite the different thing.

Rugby Saint II 11-09-2010 02:38 PM

I like the idea of immortalizing the Dome Patrol. At some point in the near future we need to do something for our Superbowl winners and ownership needs to be recognized. Did ya'll know that Benson bought the team to keep them from being moved? He thought he would be one of the investors......turned out he was the only one. He's responsible for keeping the Saints here. Even if he did talk about moving the Saints to San Antonio it was during a difficult time.

lumm0x 11-09-2010 04:19 PM

Geez.....I guess when the NFL is laying the boots to you like Carolina is taking it this year then there is nothing better to do than gripe about crap like this.

As stated, I'm 100% sure the people that did it knew his history with New Orleans considering it was twice as long as it was in Carolina. I think it is great that a fantastic player like him was able to be the lightning rod for the start of their franchise and could become an icon for the early years of their team. Know self respecting Saints fan could not acknowledge he was a great player in both cities and he was one of the best individuals around.

I guess by the close minded thinking of those original post quotes if Tomlinson has a nice 3 year career in New York with the Jets we should all forget his years in San Diego as he belongs to New York now and Chargers fans have no business remembering him. Childish.

lynwood 11-09-2010 05:41 PM

I say we put a Statue up of Jessica Holly

Oh, And Pole Fitness....c'mon

I have met Archie and his wife and they are really nice folks. Saw them back in September as well since we often eat at the same restaurant. Weird, I know. I took offense when he was pulling for the Dolts against us, but having a child, that would be the only right thing to say. However, I also know that your heart doesn't have to speak what it really feels. He should be included since he is the face that the rest of the world seems to associate with the Saints. Also, he is a CLASS ACT and his family has done a lot for New Orleans and the surrounding area. Pass the bucket.:bng:

saintsfan601 11-12-2010 04:39 PM

here's two of my favorite quotes from the first 5 pages.

Stupid Saints fans, they travel good and stay till the clocks hits 0 ( real ones not superbowl bandwagoners.) Damn them!

From the sound of that last TD the Aint's scored, there were NO Panthers fans left in the vicinity.
