With another agonizing down-up-down-up New Orleans Saints season rumbling, stumbling, fumbling toward 00:00, it's time to consider one of this city's great natural resources: Saints fans. I've been observing them for about three years now, and lemme say this to ya: I'm baffled. Charmed, but baffled. Consider: The 2002 season finale was one of the most desultory moments in a long Saints history of desultory moments. The scoreboard showed that Atlanta had lost. All the Saints needed to make the playoffs was a touchdown. But no. The final was 10-6, Carolina. And yet, the first exhibition game of the 2003 season sold out.
