Dialed it down?
Did it appear to anyone else that Payton dialed down the offense a bit in the second half? It would make sense with the game pretty much in hand with the possibility of facing the same opponent in the first round of the playoffs. Why show them everything you have prepared for them when base offense will suffice to hold the lead?

Well Guido... Maybe it had something to do with more than likely meeting them in the playoffs? I know Roman Harper thought so. LOL
|
Not sure if i would say "dialed it down". More along the lines of.... Ok we know what works, lets see what else works...
Also, had Colston not had the dropsies on a few plays in the second half the score would have been higher... I know he is the man, makes amazing plays, has amazing stats...... I have a hard time living with passes dropped that hit you in the hands. I would be willing to bet that Payton has a difficult time with it also. |
The Rams never gave up. They hung in there. I don't know if you dial it down.
|
Would have been a different story without the turn-over for 7 before the half. Playoff time will be full throttle for 4 quarters.
|
I think you should play every play with your foot on the gas. Never let up. Anything could happen on any play.

There was some dialing down in the second half, and running/less interesting plays in order to burn the clock. If we see the Rams again in January, there will definitely be plenty o' stuff they haven't seen from the Saints.
Unfortunately, I felt last night there was also THE LULL, or 'nap time' by the offense in the 2nd and 3rd quarters, again...14 explosive offensive points in the 1st quarter, they looked totally unstoppable out there, then suddenly... zzzzzzzz....no more offensive scoring until deep into the 3rd quarter. If we have a lengthy scoring famine like that against Atlanta, while they keep methodically chugging away at TDs and field goals in the 2nd and 3rd, the game could get out of control very quickly. |
I've noticed that Payton has dialed it down in the second quarter every game this year. Maybe it's just me.

Better be ready to dial 911 playing in the snow and cold in Baltimore
|
The loss of Ivory, some New Orleans mistakes, and Rams' belief that they could move the ball contributed.
|
It would make sense to me, one the game was out of reach, to slip into "preaseason mode," dont show anymore cards, and take your starters out. I needed some toilet paper, when they sacked Brees on our last series of the long-decided game. And did you see the play where Vilma got dinged momentarily? whew.
lets take em out, next time we've wrapped it up. |
