Drew Brees INTs

I've heard several people talk about how Drew Brees interceptions are a cause for concern. This is true, though I must say that the interception column is just a number; all interceptions aren't created equal. A large number of his interceptions have been on long throws on third downs that worked more like a punt(somtimes I wonder if he is just taking a shot on purpose; as when he does this he often keeps the ball towards the sidelines as to take away any chance of any sort of return). Combine that with all the interceptions I've seen off the hands of receivers and stuff; I'm not sure if it's as big of a problem as many people have said.

10-3 and one FG from having the best record in football. I'd say we're ok.

papz 12-13-2010 09:38 AM

Not a sexy stat to have but at least 4 or 5 of those were on his receivers and Betts. The catch up INT's also factor in... when he was forced to make plays at the end of a couple of games. I'm not that worried about them.

Bingo!

Tip drill should never go against the QB when it hits the receiver in the hands first.

I couldn't disagree more.
We all know from past experience (ie. Aaron 'Smiley' Brooks) that turnovers can change the complexion of the game quickly. If the team can't control the turnovers, to include the 1 or 2 INTs/ game, then we WILL have problems moving deep into the playoffs.

Although more than a couple of the INT's were tipped or mishandled balls by our receivers, turnovers in ANY form cost us points and IMHO you can't repeat if you can't keep the ball out of the hands of your opponent. So YES, it is cause for concern.

I hate interception. The Saints are 10 - 3. I'm learning to live with it.

dizzle88 12-13-2010 10:08 AM

Theres a couple that are not Brees' fault, but he is forcing alot more sometimes than he used to.
Examples are the long pass into double coverage yesterday, goal line pick vs seahawks, and the other pick vs seahawks.
The guy is still the best, but hes forcing a little sometimes. It annoys Brees, so ya know he will get it sorted, the guys attention to detail is unrivalled.

Mardigras9 12-13-2010 10:11 AM

Interceptions happen, it's the ability to maintain composer as a team that keeps the Saints winning.

QBREES9 12-13-2010 10:14 AM

Like the one he threw to Lance Moore. One thing we always forget is the tip passes the deflection. Wide receiver runs the wrong route. The Quaterback gets the glory and the blame.

QBREES9 12-13-2010 11:00 AM

Ok so stop throwing them......easier said then done.

Papa Voodoo 12-13-2010 11:03 AM

Time to sit him and go with Chase :P

The one in the 2nd quarter that was intercepted yesterday, was on the 6th straight passing play in a row. The Rams dude was watching Drew all the way.

The big one in the Dallas game, was a similar type of deal. It came after a Jones running play, but there were at least 4 or 5 consecutive passes in a row just BEFORE that. So the Cowboys were probably thinking pass.

It is my opinion that SOME of these interceptions are happening when the playcalling gets a little pass happy, and teams that have studied the Saints will say to themselves, "okay, this is the part of the game where the Saints are going to be passing like crazy now," and they just sit back and wait for it.

The one in the 4th quarter yesterday, was just that play we always do, where Drew sorta runs around on the goal line or in his own end zone, and something REALLY BAD always happens. Intentional grounding for a safety in the NFC Championship game, for example. It happens so often, I will literally see them line up in the shotgun near their own goaline on 3rd down, and I will turn to my friends next to me and say "uh-oh, this is that play where Drew runs around and something bad happens."

Interceptions will always happen, just need to keep it to one or no more than two. No matter who's at fault, just consider the worst two games of the season, the Saints committed 7 interceptions. Those two losses were very ugly, the offense basically gave both games away. Fortunately the Saints cleaned up that area, for the most part. Just think how much of a difference things could be right now if for not those two games that were given away. I know a lot of folks are blaming Hartley for the Atlanta game, and rightfully so, but the games against the Browns and Cardinals to me are the two killers! Now if you want to take it a step further, consider in the three Saints losses they committed 9 interceptions! So, yes, interceptions are a big deal.

UK_WhoDat 12-13-2010 01:00 PM

I think there is a pattern for some of the worst interceptions -
1. If Drew is a little behind in that game on TDs
2. The opposing QB is doing well relatively.

breesfan27 12-13-2010 02:59 PM

I hate interceptions. Mainly because

A. They look bad on his stats. (Yeah, I know stats aren't everything, but they just look bad. Deal with it.)
2. They usually lead to scoring opportunities by the opposing team. We've had more than a few times where opponents have scored on one of his INTs, whether they ran it back for a TD or they scored on the next drive.
3. I have him as my fantasy quarterback. Everytime he throws a pick, I lose fantasy points. Right now, I'm second in my league and playoffs are fast approaching. I can't afford to lose.

That is all

Yeah, he is. But I still don't like INTs. They're hella lame.

I'll cut a *****. That' MY man!

Saintswrath 12-13-2010 05:53 PM

Back to back 10-3 Seasons.. Hmmm.... Im not worried about a stat lol

Obviously that shows other teams studied Drew Brees VERY CLOSELY! after his crazy season last year and all of the Press done around him for the entire year afterwards including his accurate throwing..

But Drew even with the INT's is still unstoppable, where we tripped up another portion of the team picked up the slack to make it up.. I think Saints at this point is unstoppable, they're loses were their own fault not the result of another team being better.

Yall should be thankful yall don't have to deal with an overrated prima donna QB who is also injury prone like I do.

Dammit Cartman, stop saying "Hella"!

I just think that a lot of Brees interceptions have been more like punts, probably like 30-40 yards down the field and towards the sidelines. I'd love to see the statistic, but I bet the majority of his interceptions have been on 3rd down too.

Touche sir, touche. Romo looks like he is always depressed or something. Maybe it's that stupid hat he wears.
