This was supposed to be QB Aaron Brooks’ breakout season, the year that he took the reins of the Saints and made the team his own. But inconsistency and inaccuracy submarined his chances to become a vocal leader for the club, and some insiders believe that Brooks should leave the leadership role to other players who are more prepared to handle the responsibility. Brooks has turned in some poor performances in the past when he presses on the field, and we’re told he put a lot of pressure on himself early in the season not only to be more vocal, but also to lead by example. The result was that he lost his focus and still forced plays, problems that plagued his first two full years as a starter in the Big Easy. There are some who believe that Brooks never will make the jump to being a superstar QB, but it seems the Saints are OK with that scenario. Team observers say the front office and coaching staff are 100 percent behind Brooks, and there is no question who will be the team’s quarterback in the future. Maybe we can really be ok with a Trent Dilfer kind of manage the game QB? If so then, who's going to be our Ray Lewis on the field leader? |
