Sean Payton, New Orleans Saints, Should Pursue RB DeAngelo Williams | Bleacher Report

I say get him, keep ivory and draft a bruiser.

Sinner 01-10-2011 10:40 PM

YES!

Ashley 01-10-2011 10:47 PM

Bring him aboard

Absolutely agreed. He can be coached - Want him to grow up with us.

spkb25 01-10-2011 11:04 PM

Him and Ivory would be great

|Mitch| 01-10-2011 11:08 PM

Williams is like P.T. & Bush rolled all in one...

lumm0x 01-10-2011 11:48 PM

Williams, PT and Ivory and our backfield is phenomenal.

MatthewT 01-11-2011 12:59 AM

DeAngelo is a great talent, but one who has missed 13 games in the past two seasons, including 10 this past season. I am really not sure of the reasons for his injuries, what I am saying is don't be too quick to jump on this bandwagon. Injured running backs were a major problem with the Saints this past season, not sure if I would dump money on this guy.

There is one veteran RB that I believe the Saints should seriously consider. Before you guys run me out of here, let me make a few points. I believe for one, his contract is finally over. He has no desire to be a featured RB, which is very good for the committee system that the Saints currently run. Has been very durable, has not missed a game in 3 years. Going to be 34, but is in the best shape of his life. In a reserve roll can be counted on for 600 plus yards. Now team him up with Ivory, and you should be able to see how great this can be. You should all know who I am talking about by now, that is Ricky Williams. He stated he doesn't want to continue playing for Miami but would like to go another year or two. I honestly cannot think of anyone better at this point.

Pete 01-11-2011 01:12 AM

Does he come with a tackle or guard?Seriously though, he has proven himself to be a pretty good back and I'd be all for it if the price is legit.

BringTheWood 01-11-2011 01:40 AM

Completely agree. DeAngelo would be a nice complement to a healthy Ivory, and assuming Reggie restructures, he's our 3rd guy working on blitz pickup and out of the slot. That'd be a damn nice tandem to have in the backfield.

jeanpierre 01-11-2011 04:42 AM

He's too fragile; misses blocking assignments; we need to get/stay younger...

Crusader 01-11-2011 05:44 AM

I'd pass. I think he has seen his best football.

What he said!:bng:

jcp026 01-11-2011 07:19 AM

Definitely! Williams, Bush(pay cut), Ivory, and possibly Thomas (on the cheap) would be incredible.

Danno 01-11-2011 07:24 AM

Sign Michael Bush from Oakland, draft Demarco Murry, re-sign PT and let Ivory, Hill, Hamilton and a couple late round or UDFA's battle it out for #4 and #5.

papz 01-11-2011 08:31 AM

I like the Michael Bush idea... but if we sign him, I see no reason to draft Murry. He's going to go within the first couple of rounds and I don't see a need to spend a high pick on him. I think Bush could land a contract maybe a little smaller than Turner's when he signed it a couple of years back and he can handle a full load of carries. Mix that with Ivory and whomever we pick off the street... or lower in the draft, we'll be just fine I think.

dizzle88 01-11-2011 08:45 AM

Bring him in, every time he's played us, he ran all over us, the guy is a good RB and a backfield of either him, PT ivory or him bush and Ivory would be deadly, or we draft an RB. but we need to sign him!!!

CheramieIII 01-11-2011 09:12 AM

with PT, CI, Reggie, JJ and Evans I don't think we need to bring in anone else here. I think the offense is good to go just stop all those false start penalties. It's defense we need DL and OLB maybe another CB

Ashley 01-11-2011 09:28 AM

I really don't care who we bring in, we just need to do some upgrading. I do like the DeAngelo Williams talk, plus drop a draft pick on one (late round).
Stay with defensive on the top picks!

This...
I think if ivory can work on his durability, we can afford to spend all the draft picks addressing defense......and maybe stinchcombs RT spot.

winmill1 01-11-2011 10:10 AM

yesssssssssssssss

Budsdrinker 01-11-2011 10:15 AM

Williams has also missed some time with injuries the past 2 years so keep that in mind.

pherein 01-11-2011 10:34 AM

Personally, I hate to say it, but I think Henderson has lost a step. Moore, can take his position, and we might get a good draft pick for him. We diffinately need to worry about our OL first. Bushrod is just not getting it done, and stinch had problems he was unable to correct this year. Because of this Brees got hurt. Brees can not get hurt.
If we can get a 1st rate pass rusher for DT Im all for it, or a big talent OLB, but if we cant, I think we need to readdress the WR position, and draft a 210 lbs 6 4'-6 5' WR with at least 4.5 speed to complement colston.

Parcells always said RB's were a dime a dozen, so Im not sure if payton thinks the same way.

He looks good, or even Dontay Moch who posted a 4.38 in the 40 isnt bad. Miller was 4.56.

This kid has the speed to cover any TE or scat RB

Why not add 20lbs of muscle to Arrington? LOLOLOLOL

RailBoss 01-11-2011 10:52 AM

I would go for it, the RB situation this season was terrible.

lol, I love Arrington. I think hes ready to play also. If Henderson is let go Arrington needs to enter the lineup and the WR draft enter Arringtons spot. But we draft high for WR, so if Arrington cant finish the season we have another threat. Kind of what we did with Graham.
