Casey Matthews

Always kinda liked the Ducks, and have followed this guy. Watched the BCS bowl last night, and he looked good. Do you think he would be a good draft choice to help out our linebacker core?

st thomas 01-11-2011 01:04 PM

is he smart with speed and agility, BAM hes in

dizzle88 01-11-2011 01:10 PM

Can he rush the passer?
He have good speed, intelligence?
Can he cover TE's?
Is he a sound Tackler?

If so, pull the trigger

neugey 01-11-2011 01:10 PM

Didn't realize he's gonna be in the draft. Yes very solid.

Euphoria 01-11-2011 01:15 PM

He looked good last night!

Although I can't see how we could miss with drafting anyone of AU D players geez they were just blowing O up in the back field.

papz 01-11-2011 01:21 PM

Didn't watch the game and I hate Auburn... but I would give my left testicle to have Nick Farley on our line.

For those that didn't know, he is Clay Matthews' (Packers) brother. In my opinion, he is just as good.

Being clay matthews brother doesn't do much for me. When I was a RB I averaged 2.5k yards a season my brothers couldn't run or play football at all. But my older brother was weaker than I was, but he could throw a fast ball at 82 mph in baseball, I barely clocked 60 no matter how hard I tried. I watched him throw 8 9 inning strike outs. You hand off a football to him, he would get killed, you put me on a mound I would embarrass the team. People are born different, even in the same family.

case in point Eli is no PM, and never will be.

Certainly Eli (Archies little girl) is no PM but he is no slouch of a footballplayer either. If you play and do pretty good in th enational championship game chances are you're doing something right.

While I do agree it's a mistake not to leave this year, he is coming from a family of wealth. Different strokes for different folks... I couldn't do it.

Yeah, but Eli is Olivia's son, not Archie's.

saints1234 01-11-2011 07:27 PM

i love this guy casey Matthews, he's fast strong and wild just like his brother and is relentless in is play,
Clay didnt go to late in the first round and look how good of a player he is now he should get defensive player of the year......casey should be just as good if not better i would pull the trigger if he is there at or pick

Wow ... you have one to give? lol..... seriously ... he'd be a perfect fit on our defense... any others that we actually have a realistic shot at getting?

saintsfan1976 01-14-2011 07:36 AM

Passing on Clay Matthews in the draft was a mistake IMO.
Casey is his brother's clone and I'd love to see him in B&G.

Perfect player to get pressure on Matt Ryan and Josh Freeman.

Casey runs a 4.85, and also plays MLB, and is only 6-2 235 lbs.

If this site is right (it hasn't been updated in over a month), I don't think he's what we're looking for, on paper that is..

That's actually a slower 40 time that I've read (4.78 to 4.68). Clay's time was 4.67 and Clay also came out at 240lbs.

I'm not saying he's a first rounder (or even second), but his combination of skills, intensity and work ethic are rare.

He's quick to the play and could be used in many of the same ways Clay is.

Now if we're talking OLB, Bruce Carter - UNC - would be a great pick!

From the info that's out there on him, he sounds exactly like JoLonn Dunbar did in college.

Danno you did some good reserch

TheDeuce 01-15-2011 10:18 AM

I worry abou Matthews' speed, but I always love players who play the game the right way: with a lot of intensity.

Speaking of players who play it the wrong way: I would cut off my left testicle if we drafted Nick Fairley. I don't like dirty players. He consistently hits people after the play and I'm shocked he was never tossed for his famous QB body slam. I was hoping somebody from Oregon cheap shotted him back so he'd know how it felt.

Believe me he will learn when he gets to play with the big boys. Slam a QB like that in the NFL and somebody will be gunning for your knees.

I don't want to see that kind of crap in black and gold.

No worries; Nick Fairley will be long gone by the time we pick...
