For better or for worse, Brooks and Haslett are in this thin

By David Jackson
Courier Correspondent

Remember when Mike Ditka and Ricky Williams took the infamous wedding picture together? Sure, it made national headlines, but to a certain degree it was true.

If Ricky did well and the Saints won, it would have been a great marriage.

The same applies to Jim Haslett and quarterback Aaron Brooks. For all intents and purposes, the two are joined together during their time with the Saints -- through sickness and in health, through good years and bad years, until free agency do you part.

After each loss and subsequent mistake-filled performance by Brooks, Haslett relives the same questions at the press conference podium.

"How would you rate Aaron Brooks’ performance?"

Haslett is constantly defending and making excuses for Brooks\' mistakes. That sends the wrong message to the rest of the team as well as the QB himself. When you read various quotes from Brooks about how everyone needs to stop making mistakes and everyone should be accountable, it\'s laughable that he never once admits any mistakes of his own. That\'s not an exaggeration, it\'s there in black and white.

Clearly Brooks is unable to 1) admit when he\'s screwed up and, 2) learn from it so he won\'t do it again. Those qualities are part of leadership and there is no question he does not possess those skills.

Hopefully, for his own career, Haslett will come to his senses and realize that Aaron Brooks is a guy with an exceptional arm but mentally deficient. It\'s like a 12 year old having a .357...he\'s got a lot of power but he doesn\'t have the faintest idea how to use it properly.

Quote:

But Brooks fumbled and the Eagles recovered in the end zone. I know he has made about every spectacular play a quarterback can make. But if you can’t hand the ball to the running back on the goal line, how can you help the team?
Good synopsis- he also goes on to say that despite all this, he still thinks that Brooks is the best QB that the Saints have ever had. I think that pretty much sums up the way I look at it, except that I think Manning is the best QB we\'ve ever had, Brooks still has time to prove me wrong.

Give me Archie or Bobby Hebert anyday over Aaron Brooks.....Steve Walsh and John Fourcade are even higher on my list than Brooks. LOL
