McDonald's employee fired for letting Peterson use the restroom

By Chris Chase

An assistant manager at McDonald's was fired after allowing Minnesota Vikings star Adrian Peterson to use the bathroom while the restaurant was closed.

While working the late-night drive-thru shift at 3 a.m., a female employee encountered a man standing outside the window who asked to come inside and use the restroom. After a little while, she realized it was the popular Minnesota Vikings star and opened the door for him to come inside and use the facilities. (The seating area at the restaurant is normally closed during the late-night hours.)

One week later, the mother of three was fired for the offense.

"He's a public figure... I know him better than some of the maintenance people that come in and out," she told The Consumerist. "I never thought in a million years that that decision was going to cost me my career."

Jeez, McDonald's. It's not like she was letting in Brett Favre(notes) or Bryant McKinnie(notes). He's Adrian Peterson, the most famous Vikings player of all! If you can't do a solid for AD, who can you?

There's a silver lining at the end of these golden arches, though: After the local media reported on the woman's termination, McDonald's gave her back her old job.

Let this be a lesson to all you fast-food employees keen on handing out favors to famous athletes. It doesn't matter if Tom Brady(notes) walks through those doors; he has to pay $0.39 for supersizing just like everyone else.

My Story:

Fifteen years ago, working at an Health Insurer, I was nearly fired for talking to a Saints player who after quickly fixing his problem, just wanted to chat...

So all a robber has to do is impersonate someone famous

I would say wait a minute and keep fumbling the keys.

In what jobs we have left in this country, you're not allowed to think.

If that took place in MN, I bet that Manager lost his job! LOL Would have in NOLA!

I can understand why they are not allowed to let anyone in, from a security standpoint. Still to fire somebody for it is pretty harsh.

Saintswrath 01-15-2011 06:35 PM

"Career"? Mcdonalds?!?

I think McDonalds did her a favor by firing her.

Choupique 01-15-2011 08:51 PM

She got her job back. Sorry about that. That sounds like the worst part.

Nah, people gotta do what they gotta do for a living. Who are we to judge where someone makes an honest living. The food still sucks(_!_), however.

I'd of pee'd in the back of the store by the dumpster if I had to go that damn bad but I'm from Louisiana. When ya gotta go, ya gotta go.

Don't do that during Mardi Gras! Heard NOPD has a new set of handcuffs if you relieve in public...

Entire thing just sucks, but back in the day I was always told never open the door after hours for anyone, and it was for good reason. The right thing to do is let someone in at a time of need, but in this day the practice isn't safe at all. I have to side with McDonald's on this issue. (Thankfully the person did get her job back though).

Suppose the celebrity was Ray Lewis or Jayson Williams?

subguy 01-17-2011 08:58 AM

I kinda think he shouldn't have used to celebrity to ask for special treatment, I know it happens all of the time. The manager knew better but did it so they should have been reprimanded in some way, but I feel glad they got their job back.

Bah-dah, bop, bop, D'OH!!

QBREES9 01-17-2011 10:40 PM

Are you kidding me its was Adrian Peterson

I thought the exact same thing. Years ago, I had given up on ever getting into the "major leagues" of my vocation, and was working in a grocery store, but, of course, I wasnt happy, and had a habit of speaking out. Sure enough, after witnessing some corporate bs, I wrote a "Jerry McGuire" letter to management-- ALL of management. Lower level guys thought I was the coolest. Management branded me an "idiot." I had ruined my banana stacking career.

Somehow, I recovered.

Oh no, I do it all the time. Coming back from the Bucs game 2 weeks ago, there's a Sonic just south of Port Allen, (what is that town called?) on hwy 1. ...peed behind their dumpster. very nice little area, very clean, looks brand new.

You know, if you have a 3rd door on your truck, you can pretty much pee anywhere. Walmart parking lot. Galleria. parking garage at work.

If Drew Brees has to go the the bathroom in New Orleans, you can let him in. He doesnt even have to buy a drink, if you're a bar. He doesnt even have to be a customer.

If you're a Mcdonalds, and Drew Brees has to go, you not only let him in, but you start up the french frier, and open the fridge, and make whatever he wants to eat. Even if he asks for a Whopper.

If youre working at McDonalds, (youre probably posting at SR, instead of here, but at least now we understand where your anger comes from. ) and Drew Brees wants hotcakes and sausage, but its 10:31am, you still serve him breakfast.

If it was Ray-en-Thal, youre supposed to try to keep him in the restaurant until authorities can arrive. Then Crimestoppers will give you 5,000.

skymike 01-18-2011 04:03 PM

When Ray Lewis's baby is born, is it on already on parole?

Ahem... Haven't we been through this before Mike?

Memnoch_TP 01-18-2011 10:06 PM

You know, I recently lost my job because of Garret Hartley. I was working at a seafood restaurant in Slidell that got Hartley to come in over Labor Day Weekend to sign autographs. So since they spent so much money getting him to come in they told us if we didn't sell 5 $40 tickets for Dinner and an Autograph with Hartley you get fired.

I was going out of town that weekend on vacation myself, and no one wanted to pay $40 for a kicker's autograph. And the few that were interested were leaving town for Labor Day like I was and couldn't go.

So, basically I left for vacation knowing I didnt have a job to come back to. It rather sucked. It makes it easier to be mad at Hartley for that kick in week 3, though. He didn't just cost us home field advantage, he indirectly cost me my job. (Which, FYI, still has me totally screwed, but I digress)

ohhhhhh. yeah... I forgot.
Ray Lewis jokes never stop being funny.

Sorry about your job situation.
If I was young and single, and wasnt already wrapped up in a career,
I'd be interested in shrimping. Or really interested in working on a ship.

Memnoch_TP 01-21-2011 05:34 PM

Why Shrimping?

skymike 01-21-2011 06:32 PM

Cuz I dont care if work is hard, so long as it doesnt drive me out of my mind. And being on the water, out in the fresh air, just working for some
old man, and not some big stupid company sounds appealing.

So long as you can get yourself some kind of insurance, and save a chunk of money every week.

This is America. You can do whatever makes you happy, as long as you're not married or have kids.
