This MAGIC moment...

Embrace this magic moment. We're in the waning part of it but it still has ahold of us. But in the scheme of things it is nothing more than a fleeting moment that will not, can not and now has not lasted forever.

Just ask San Francisco; they used to dominate. Remember the Orange Crush? That was when Denver was dominant. Dallas. Washington. Most have had a turn and the glory is faded.

Now, I understand that with 32 teams in the league and only ONE magic spot as Superbowl Champion, the chance of remaining dominant for more than one year is a stretch. Talk with the Buccaneers about that.

Yes, we are fortunate to have experienced a Superbowl, win or lose, and even more fortunate to have experienced "Superbowl Champion New Orleans Saints". But have you ever taken the time to think about how magic a season has to be to become that? How fragile that title is in the following year? Remember the times you used to tell yourself and others that IF we just REACHED the Superbowl you'd be happy? I don't think I'll ever be saying that again.

Alot of magic came our way last year. What IF Porter had not intercepted Favre? Heck, I can pretty much attribute my membership to this forum to that moment because once we were "on our way" I sought a deeper sense of belonging to the Saints. Something deeper even than my lifetime of allegience to this team.

I mean, that's what this all is, right? Us meeting here to act out our level of "sense of belonging". Some of us are statisticians who can recite Saints players and yards gained back to 1967. I, personally, am not that. I'm just a guy who grew up in NOLA, wanting to believe in something larger than myself. Remember Bob Pollard, #82, linebacker for a while in the '70's? He was my hero as a young kid. Don't know why, but he was "magic" in that moment. Not so much Archie Mannings as the Steve Stonebreakers, the players no longer thought of who gave us what was at the time their all, but it just wasn't magic enough.

On this board we meet and speculate, hope, rehash and predict. But we don't influence at all the outcomes that provide us with pride and sense of accomplishment that we wear in the form of jersey and fanfare. But that too is a magic feeling. Even more so while we remain relevant.

Here's to hoping we remain relevant in the near future, and can recapture some of the magic that contributed to the '09-'10 season. But remember just how fragile that can be.

Let's wrap ourselves in fleur-de-lis and leave it at that. The greatest feeling is the chill bumps we all get "When the Saints come marching in!" win or lose!

I think we have a window for realistic SB aspirations of 4-5 more years... Thats hardly the "waning moments"

Waning moment of last year's Championship season. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

Once there's a new Champion and it isn't us, we lose a little national mojo.

I'm with you, bro.

LOL

Just Facebook-searched Bob Pollard, and there he is, living large in Texas. Sent him a little thank you note for the memories.

Oh, the power of the internet...
