New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams still hasn't gotten over team's loss to Seattle Seahawks

We spoke to New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams here in Fairhope, Ala., at the Senior Bowl for the first time since the Saints' season-ending 41-36 playoff loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
"I'm really pissed that I'm sitting here at the Senior Bowl because you know that we had an off day. And it was defensively that we had an off day," said Williams, who said he had to spend Sunday cussing at the TV set and second-guessing all of the coaches still left in the playoffs. Williams said he's been reliving the four explosive plays that allowed Seattle to win over and over, especially Marshawn Lynch's 67-yard touchdown run that put the game out of the reach in the fourth quarter. He said that was the first time in two years that the Saints had lost a game in that fashion. They usually pride themselves in not giving up those "explosive" plays. And he said even three decades into his coaching career, he said he's not able to get over a loss like that easily. Williams stood up for safety Roman Harper, who had a rough game, saying Harper made "fast" and aggressive decisions that just didn't work out. On his decision to bow out of Denver coach search, Williams said he spoke with John Elway on Monday night at length, then couldn't sleep because he didn't feel right about the idea of meeting with his players, then interviewing somewhere else. Williams said he wouldn't say "never" about leaving for another job, but he said it would have to be a special opportunity to take him away. I am glad we are both losing sleep.

I believe the out come would have been different if Jenkins was playing. I think they would have made ajustments and had Jenkins covering there TE that made all those plays in the first half.

Don't beat yourself up coach you put your best guy's on the fieldl they have to be countable to do there job there grow men.

Yeah this is a good sign...
Coaches are pissed... only means that will trickle down to the players. Look at ways to improve and add other deminsions to the team. Come on next season already! |

I'm still dreaming about this one and playing it over and over on how we lost it. I am also glad he's pissed about it. He has a long offseason to stew over this one and the players had better be as well.... |
Im glad I only have a job where 500,000 people hear me screw up, but they forget it in a few minutes.
That said, Stay Pissed, GW!` |
its helping me heal now that GW has spoken. thanks coach

Imagine Williams coaching this losing game and then leaving for another job?! Wouldn't that be something!?
Seriously, it's good to hear that he is bothered by the loss. I mean, we all know he has pride in coaching a good game for the Saints, but sometimes you wonder whether this gets to the paid professionals the way it does us. I'm not a SORE loser just a HARD loser. I'd be devastated if I were him. Time heals all wounds, but that would haunt me forever or until the next Superbowl win. Alaska |

Stay pissed until next year and then teach the entire defense some fundamentals, like how to tackle a brokedown running back.

'member how Vaughn Johnson would comment after a loss with that real intense snarl about we're just gonna have to hit the opposition "harder"...
Well we need a Strong Safety who can cover and hit "harder"! |
Hey Gregg...
Wanna Sleep Better? Get Carter, Quinton Carter. And lose that bum Harper. |
I find it somehow ironic that Coach W stands up for his players and many of you have dogged on them like a fair weather fan.
If this applies to you, move to Atlanta. You aren't a real fan in fact you're a traitor with no spine. |
