New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton leaves himself open to much criticism

The last time a prominent New Orleanian tried to buy a home in Dallas and commute to New Orleans it didn't work out well.

For the new homeowner or for the Crescent City.

I know it's unfair to compare New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton and former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin, but the two now share something other than a Lombardi Gras parade toast: Controversy.

On the anniversary of the Saints' only Super Bowl title, a day in which Payton etched his name in Super Bowl lore and forever won the hearts of the Who Dat Nation with a bold onside kick call to start the second half, New Orleans was hit with a different kind of "Ambush" on Monday afternoon.

My sister and her family moved to the Dallas area two decades ago and still live in Grapevine, just down the road from the Paytons' new home. The neighborhoods are safe and clean, the schools are great and the economy robust. It's a wonderful place to live.

Just not for the coach of the New Orleans Saints.
Isn't his wife from tthat area? She has said that she loved living there.

I don't blame him for wanting to live and raise his family there. Very clean... nice city to live in. As long as we're winning football games, and he's here coaching us long term, it isn't that big of a deal as people are making it out to be. Let's hope Jason Garrett doesn't suck either.

It does smack of something? I don't now what it is yet but I will try and explain it when my little pea brain figures it out.

Same here.

I'll bet his son remains an LSU fan.

I relocated from the Grapevine area back to NOLA because we hated everything about that place. Small crawfish, dry counties, overcrowded streets, cookie cutter homes, etc... It is a life style preference. That being said, I don't blame him for wanting to be home. I just hate associating our coach with anything close to Cowboy colors.

How many threads are we going to have about Payton buying a house in Dallas. I don't give a damn if Benson have a problem with it and if he's worried stop being cheat and pay the man give him what ever he wants and keep him happy but if that's were he wants to be close to the Cowboys than leave treat him like a player if you don't want to be here than let him go.

It pains me to say this, but anymore, I wouldn't want to live in New Orleans either...

Sorry. No offense intended.

I grew up in NOLA and have been back since Katrina. It's not the same. At all...

If SP sells his sole to Jerry Jones (Satan) then I guess his ego finally put him over the top. As long as he leaves his paws off Drew and we can sign Gruden we'll be okay.

I totally get that for the guys and their families,it is not a simple home family life as far as coaches, players having a simple, regular hours.
Yes,they also move from team to team after a few years at one of they are lucky. Some get traded during a season or the year.
If Dallas is where the Payton's really want to live permanently, fine and have chosen to make that their homebase as he moves around the NFL, fine. They have two young kids and maybe at this stage in the kids,'school years,it is best they a permanent homebase.
I just don't see how the guy can get to from on a daily basis between the two places. Private plane ,etc.,still, his job is a regular 9-5 kind of thing.

Yes, I know it is not our business.
