Could Reggie Bush be next for Saints?
1 Attachment(s)
With the New Orleans Saints’ release of Jeremy Shockey on Tuesday, there comes an obvious question. Who’s next?
If you’re thinking the answer is Reggie Bush, you might be right. And you might be wrong. This one is going to be a very tough call and I’m glad I don’t have to make it. Coach Sean Payton and general manager Mickey Loomis will have to make the decision and let’s take a glance at some of the numbers they’ll be looking at. Bush is scheduled to make $11.8 million in base salary in the final season of his contract. More importantly, he’s scheduled to have a $16 million cap figure. Assuming a labor deal gets done and there is a salary cap, there’s no way Bush will play at that figure. That leaves the Saints with two choices. They could talk to Bush about a contract extension that would spread this year’s base salary over more years and make this season’s cap figure much more friendly. Say what you want about Bush and how he hasn’t lived up to his college hype, but I think the Saints see him as a unique and valuable player. They seem to have a real affinity for them and Bush seems to like the organization and the New Orleans area. If that’s all true, it wouldn’t be all that difficult to work out a deal to keep everyone happy. The other option would be to cut Bush. The Saints would free up $12.6 million by doing that. But they still would be on the hook for $3.4 million in cap space. That’s a lot of money to count toward a player no longer on your roster, especially when there are ways to keep him on your roster and make him fit nicely by making some contract adjustments. Remember, the Saints are likely to let Pierre Thomas walk into free agency. If they don't have Bush, they would be down to just Chris Ivory and whoever they bring in at running back. Vet Minimum, and he returns kicks and punts.
|
12 million over 4 years.
|
2-3 million... which he'll decline. I think 4 will do the trick but do we really want to do that?

3.5 compromise and I'm thinking yes. SP and the bunch like him and I'm not sure what he could do at another organization and would they be willing to be as patient for someone who gets hurt as often as he does. He needs one more season to prove himself. He gave up the Heisman last season and to add insult to injury, broke his leg. Redemption? I would love to see the kid break out of his chains and just do the d**n thang. |
He should return kicks aswell, even though it might add to the chance that he gets injured. he could make a great impact with his speed there, i hope he restructures!!
|
I don't see Bush going anywhere but hey you never know

Its also up to the front office to correct their mistakes. Cutting Bush is a step in the right direction. |

Does not compute. |

Injuries has slowed him down a bit. He should be fine next year but like Shockey, can't stay healthly. |
Reggie Bush
I just heard on the radio in Houston did the Saints release Reggie Bush is that true.
|
Maybe you heard "could" be released?

I think we try to get Reggie at a reduced rate and release PT. I think the whole ankle thing kinda pissed a few folks off.

Will Bush be back for a second term LOL?

Bush needs to go, too much of a liability. Him returning kicks has resulted in more chest pain than the few spectacular returns he has had. He had a chance in Seattle to prove himself, and got hurt (again). I think the Saints have been overly patient waiting for him to develop into what he was hyped to be. Just can't keep justifying the money and waiting for results that we just don't see except on rare occasions. He is too small and is no longer as fast. I'm not a Reggie hater, I really hoped to see something when he was our only hope there last year, but let's be realistic.
|
Reggie will agree to a modification of his contract. He's a really valuable decoy.
|
It's not time to cut bait on reggie yet, restructure. If you wanna cut one I hate to say it, but it is Ivory. Hell of a runner, but often times injured with groin or muscle injuries. Once Reggie restructures, I would seek out D. Williams and bring him to N.O. he'll definitely have something to prove as will all the N.O. backs reggie included
|
I would much rather keep Pierre.
|
I was watching NFL Network lastnight and they were saying that expect Bush to be release in the next couple of days. I like Bush I don't love him but I want to see him stay with the Saints but I know it's a business and we have over 30 free agents we have to sign and I will take over 30 player over one. If we release him and we release Shockey early this week I hope we get a big time free agent.
|
I love the off-season writing and speculation that goes around. "Could Reggie Bush be next for Saints?" Sure he could. Drew Brees COULD be next too. It must be nice to get paid for putting your random thoughts out online.
|
I doubt they release Reggie without trying to restructure his contract first, I do agree his money should go to the 100s of free agents this team has and to improve the defense

Only weathermen get paid more to be wrong and people eat it up like it's gospel, here's one of the reasons I hate offseason, maybe i should open a website and just write garbage to see who listens

Want Sproles? LMAO!!!!
Sorry, I had to say that. Though on the serious side, I'm almost completely sure that Sproles will be walking. When Cason was doing kick off returns for the last few weeks, the writing was on the wall. He is a Bush type of player. No, I'm not saying he is Bush but he's a utility guy that you use for receiving, rushing and special teams. On the other hand, I don't think I'll miss him if he walks. He had an amazing season in 2008... especially in our playoff win over the Ponies (Colts). Since he got the money, he got soft. |
I agree, Bush a distraction, the only problem is he's a distraction for the Saints too with all the inconsistencies (injuries, fumbles, running backwards, great plays) never know what to expect.
|
Please, please, please cut that plug!!!!! Too much money.....too many turnovers......not enough production. Uhmmmm......pretty easy decision IMHO.
|
Bush knows where his bread is buttered. Expect a renegotiation. I fully expect Reggie to be back in black and gold next year.
