Chum the Water--Coaching prospects

I doubt Haslett either get fired or Buffalo or Penn St comes begging for him but I can hope.

Who would you guys like for a new head coach? Make your case.

1. Dennis Green - proven drafter (Moss, Culpepper) plus has the ability to motivate
2. Jimmy Johnson - doubt he\'ll come out of retirement though
3. Nick Saban - Obvious reasons
4. Keep Haslett - Prevent a player churn, see what this team can do next year

Dennis Green.

Through his first nine seasons in Minnesota, the Vikings not only avoided a losing record, but qualified for the playoffs eight times. But after a backslide to a 5-10 mark that has seen the team go winless in seven road games to date, the 10-season Minnesota-Green marriage has come to an end, as the coach and the club agreed to a contract buyout after a successful run that saw two NFC Championship Game appearances and four division titles.

Changes were especially evident at the quarterback position. In their eight playoff years, the Vikings started seven different passers -- Sean Salisbury, Jim McMahon, Warren Moon, Brad Johnson, Randall Cunningham, Jeff George and Daunte Culpepper.
The Vikings found the seas much rougher in the postseason. Minnesota went 0-for-Green\'s first four playoff appearances -- including two years when they had home games as NFC Central champions -- before breaking through for a 23-22 win over the New York Giants in the 1997 wild-card round.

This season might have been worse on the team than either of those two defeats. It began with a loss to the Carolina Panthers, the magnitude of which has only grown with each passing Carolina loss in their ongoing 14-game losing streak.

\"The record is not a factor. I admire Dennis a lot and I appreciate what he has done,\" Vikings owner Red McCombs said. \"But I also know that there\'s never a horse that can\'t be rode and there\'s never a cowboy that can\'t be (sic) throwed.\"

Television cameras caught members of the team\'s offense bickering on the sidelines during road losses to the Chicago Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the Vikings went into a downward spiral out of which they couldn\'t climb. Throughout the tumult, Green resisted the temptation to get upset.
\"You have to be able to put it in the right perspective,\" Green said in November. \"Many times, some of what I call the excitement is sometimes hysterical, and hysterics many times don\'t make sense. You try to deal with hysterics, you\'ll find yourself lost.\"

All would be good but Saban needs to stay at LSU. They have made me not care as much about the lowely Saints and it has been exciting. A large number of the LSU players are from this state and this is something to hold your head up about.
