Do we have enough corners?

Since Payton came here he has aggressively been bringing in corners. We seem to have taken a corner every year with a relatively high draft pick since '06 when Payton arrived. He also brought in quality corners through free agency and that mix makes me feel like we have one of the most talented tandem of corners in the NFL. When we look at the youth in our secondary the talent he has recruited is top notch.
There is still room for improvement in our secondary but has Payton got what he needs to get the job done? I can't wait to find out.

Please stop with what will never happen, his price is to high, Nobody else mention Nnamdi ok. Guys he's not coming here lower your standards just a little.

I do think that we have good talent at the corners, But we got torched last season by taller stronger receivers i.e Mr. Push off Roddy White, Mike Williams.

I think it would be more realistic to target

Ike Taylor
Carlos Rodgers

if you wanna get better at CB

Our corners are better than Taylor and Rodgers...

Agreed, and I think our top 3 CB's probably are. And Patrick has some exciting potential and would benefit us more because of his special teams contributions.

With Greer, Porter, Robinson, Patrick, and Jenkins on the roster, I don't believe we'll sign any corners that'll make any significant impact. We'll probably cut Gay and re-sign Torrence... or sign a player similiar to Torrence to fill out the depth chart and help on special teams.

Well said, Papz. Corner is not an area of need. Cross Nnamdi off the wish list.

darstep 05-10-2011 02:42 PM

We only need as many corners as our front seven will allow to get burned out with additional run stop duties. Our corners will only be as good and as rested as our front seven will allow. If they end up the weekly tackle leaders along with Vilma, again, we may have to go deep on the depth chart, again. I could "almost" see guys lose 1/2 a step in coverage everytime they had to come up and bang in run support. I know why Harper got caught from behind...

This is a big year for P-Rob. Hoping he steps up and plays to the level that Malcolm Jenkins played to in his 2nd year under Greg Williams.

I think whether or not we bring back Sharper will have a lot of say in whether Robinson breaks out this year. I think he'll have a good year and 2012 will be the season where he becomes our best cornerback.

Benson would never spend the money required to secure someone like NA.

Yet he spent huge bucks on Will Smith, Drew Brees, Charles Grant, Deuce McAllister, Reggie Bush and Jahri Evans.

Benson isn't afraid to spend money.

No, Benson is not afraid to spend money. But we have to many needs to put all our Free Agent money in the NA basket. The only way Nnamdi comes to The Saints if we shell out extreme amount of money close or equal to his previous contract, or if he wants to play for a contender and take a significant cut in pay to do it. Besides, we still got Moore unsigned, Harper unsigned, Nicks unsigned, and a year from now Brees soon to be free agent.

You lose Brees ( whos gonna demand at least 100 million dollar contract ) cause you paid Nmandi then we turn into the Raiders.
Seriously, you think Nmandi better than brees.

Didn't say that they weren't. A free Agent can a depth to something that is supposedly good already and make it better. You can get free agents to pull up your bottom line ( Torrence and Gay) BTW Those corners have something ours don't height and consistency!!!! Have Porter or Greer played full seasons since becoming Saints? How many games did P. Rob miss last year because of injury? BTW Greer is good not great, he really got picked on. Also getting one more vet DB allows you to drop the dead weight. Taylor and Rodgers are better the Gay and Torrence. You can add Jonathan Joseph to my wish list.

Nnamdi's last contract ( Raider's are idiots ) was 3 years 45 million dollars, and because of all the teams vying for his services.....

Houston, Philadelphia, Lions, Giants

that price isn't going anywhere. I don't know who his agent is but if it Drew Rosenhus. He pitts the teams against each other to see where he can get the best deal and fit for the player. Where ever he goes he's gonna wanna finish his career there. Nnamdi I think will be 30 by time NFL start back up. So were talking 4-5 years at maybe about 15 mil per. Quick math that 60 mill over 4 years by Raiders numbers. Thats to much money to give to one corner if you already have decent or better than decent corners.

Oh I agree that it would not be wise to bring him in. I was simply defending ole Tom against the notion that he won't spend the money.

But it looks like thats not what you were implying.
