The Bucs apparently passed on Cam Jordan
The Bucs reportedly passed on Cam Jordan at the No. 20 pick in the draft because they questioned his pass-rush ability.
The Bucs "had doubts" that Jordan could ever be more than a "five- or six-sack per season guy," and were more confident in Adrian Clayborn's long-term upside as a pass rusher. In a 4-3 defense like the Bucs, Jordan projected as only a strong-side defensive end, possibly with the ability to move inside on nickel downs. He never topped 5.5 sacks in a college season. I agree with their assessment... but up the sack range to 6-8. Jordan is more of a complete DE... not a pure pass rusher. He does not bail out on the run to chase the quarterback kamikaze style all over the field. With his size, athleticism, and our attack style defense, a ten sack season here or there is more than possible. Think a more athletic Charles Grant... when he was actually good.

He is exactly what we hoped Charles Grant would be. Another note, he played DE in a 3-4 at Cal, and 3-4 DE's never get high sack totals. I look for his sacks to increase quite a bit in our 4-3. I can see him as a consistent 8-10 sack guy with Ellis and Rogers in the middle and Smith on the end, as well as a solid DE against the run. Clayborn may be a better pass rusher, but I think Jordan is the better player. |

not to be debbie downer but why wouldnt you want 2 ends that can rush the passer? Will smith plays the run well and rushes the passer. Im really not that crazy about Cam but who am i.

with that being said...i hope these defensive picks pan out because i can see us having to draft offense in the next couple drafts. we need a center, probably another tackle, and the way our receivers are getting surgeries every off season we will need that too

Cameron Jordan now has his chance to show the Bucs that they made a huge mistake by passing on him then, use it as motivation and slam all other NFC south QB's into the ground!

I don't think we drafted him to pass rush anyway.
I think Greg Williams was pissed we didn't seem to be able to stop the run when he wanted to. So getting some run stuffers on running downs was important and not only that if he can cause some disruptions on the line it will create an open lane for a speedster LB or DB to blitz |

And it isn't just sacks, this kid will occupy blockers and collapse the pocket. His presence will help others improve their their sack totals (ditto for Rogers), because he'll force the QB to step backwards right into the jaws of Will Smith or any of our RDEs, instead of stepping up and avoiding it.

i.m ticked off that tampon bay passed on our cam jordan.

I coveted Adrian Clayborne bc of his pass-rushing abilities but the CJ pick is growing on me - and is exactly why they're the coaches and I'm surfing the net from my couch. :bng: |
