Ike Taylor to Saints?

NFL veteran Ike Taylor ready to make a move if needed
http://media.nola.com/sports_impact/...7193-large.jpg Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback and Gretna native Ike Taylor has never had trouble making himself at home. Ike Taylor, a starting cornerback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, gives a high five to a camper attending his Face Me Ike Football Camp in Gretna on Friday. Taylor bounced around as a child, moving from Louisiana to North Carolina and back again before departing for college at Louisiana-Lafayette. Taylor moved one more time when the Pittsburgh Steelers selected him in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft. Taylor said he has found a home at every stop. "You have to be a chameleon, be able to adapt," Taylor said Friday while taking a break from his annual youth football camp in Gretna. "I've been like that since I was small. It's really no problem. Wherever I go, I just try to make it home." But Taylor, who has spent his entire eight-year pro career with Pittsburgh, may soon find himself moving again. He just doesn't know where. Taylor's contract expired after the 2010 season, and he will become an unrestricted free agent when the NFL lockout ends and free agency begins. But because teams are prevented from signing free agents during the lockout, Taylor is left in the precarious position of not knowing yet where he will play. "When you get into this profession, you already know that's part of the business," Taylor said. "You don't know what's really going to go on. There's nothing in our business that's guaranteed anyway, so that's how I look at it." After helping the Steelers reach the Super Bowl in February for the third time in six seasons, Taylor did not re-sign with Pittsburgh, leaving him available to sign with any team. But Taylor doesn't worry about the details of his contract negotiations. "I just leave it up to my agent (Joel Segal) and Pittsburgh," Taylor said. "When it comes down to getting serious, I'm sure my agent is going to call me. Other than that, he'll let me know when the time is right." read more Can we use him? |
I believe we can use him he has talent and he been around for a while. I would sign him and cut or trade Greer.
|
IIRC hes better suited as a zone CB.
I don't think he'd be a good fit here, and would probably be our 4th or 5th best CB in GW's system. I say spend the cash elsewhere. |
Cost too much... I can't see this happening. He's extremely effective in Pittsburgh due to their blitzing scheme. While a good corner, we have two very good corners... even excellent, when healthy. If he's willing to take safety money, I think he would make a great tandem with Jenkins in at safety.

Can't have too many CB's. Sign him up.

With what money?
|
He's a zone corner. Remember when we brought in a zone corner who we thought would be a good man corner. He's name is Jason David. No spend the money somewhere else.

I agree, Greer is our best CB with Porter close behind.
Hopefully Robinson pushes both of them and Patrick plays the dime by season's end. |

Hate to throw numbers at this conversation, but according to "Advanced NFL Stats", Porter had a higher Win Probability Added (meaning he gave the Saints a higher chance of winning when he was on the field), a higher Success Rate (number of plays considered "successful"), and a lower Expected Points (meaning when he was on the field, fewer points would be given up). Hate to counter with more numbers, but... If our top 3 CB's were Awful, Bad and Toasted, then how did we finish with the 4th ranked pass defense in the entire league, (with an in the box SS and below average sack totals)? We also finished 1st in the NFL for least TD passes allowed. |
Fair enough, good point Danno. I tend to be harsher on the teams I love... perhaps it's that final game that sticks in my mind... although I stand by my statement that I think Greer struggled in 2010. I remember him getting beaten quite a few times more than in 2009.
