First signing of the offseason!

Saints agreed to terms with former Clemson S DeAndre McDaniel.

It's a nice fit. McDaniel struggles are primarily in coverage, and the Saints are good about keeping their strong safeties from having to roam around the back end too often. McDaniel plays the run reasonably well and has an obvious nose for the ball with 15 interceptions in his college career. He may have to excel on special teams early to avoid the practice squad, though.

The top UDFA safety on the board. :bng:

DeAndre McDaniel NFL Draft Scouting Report - Mocking The Draft

The Future 40, prospect 16: DeAndre McDaniel scouting report

NFLDraft101: DeAndre McDaniel (Clemson) NFL Draft Scouting Report

Here are a few scouting reports FWIW. You'll have one say he's a little slow and one that says he has above average speed. It's all over the place but not atypical when it comes to scouting reports... lots of contradicting views.

Anywho...

YIPPPIEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sweet.... who's next?

papz 07-25-2011 08:28 PM

I'm not trying to sleep next to my computer all night lol.

Actually since there's only 75k to pass around, I don't think we'll get many of the notable guys.

We've got the best safety on the board before we go to contracts. We definately needed a good backup. I want Harper back and I believe he will be a Saint for a few more years. But if not training camp just got more interesting.

Stranger things have happened... but let's just take it one step at a time. Hopefully he can make the team and give our coverage team some extra pow. I do love the fact most scouting reports point out he has a nose for the ball.

That's really the most underrated question; Shanle catches slack for being less athletic than fans would like, yet the guys game smarts has made him most effective...

darstep 07-26-2011 08:00 AM

Same with Sharper. Its definitely not his quickness. He knows where to cheat and has learned to read very well.
