New Orleans free safety Malcolm Jenkins is wise beyond his years

Gregg Williams can be prone to exaggeration.
Malcolm Jenkins could go down as one of the all-time best Saints players, says defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. In his first meeting with reporters at training camp on Saturday, the New Orleans Saints' loquacious defensive coordinator dropped a doozy about free safety Malcolm Jenkins. "If he stays healthy, he'll go down as one of the better Saints of all-time," Williams said. That's a bold statement, even by Williams' hyperbolic standards, but he insists it isn't just idle bluster. He thoroughly believes Jenkins is the complete package. New Orleans has enjoyed a long line of outstanding safeties over the years, from Tommy Myers to Sammy Knight to Darren Sharper, and Saints coaches believe Jenkins can one day join the group as a Pro Bowler, maybe as soon as this season. "He's really become an outstanding player, and it's happening right in front of our eyes," Saints Coach Sean Payton said. Jenkins ranked among the team leaders in nearly every defensive category last season, and he finished second to Vilma in the club's unofficial "big hits" category. And of course, who could forget his game-saving strip of receiver Roy Williams in the Thanksgiving Day win at Dallas, the defensive highlight of the season. read much more |
I followed Jenkins watching most of his college games at Ohio State... He is a smart ball player... Seems to always come up with that key turnover at the right time.. He is a Ball hawk... I knew when the Saints drafted him that this was gonna be great for the Saints... GEAUX SAINTS

Even when he was rookie getting spot duty he looked like a difference maker. I think he and Harper will be among the best safety combos in the league for years to come.

You can't teach instincts and this kid has em. He's a playmaker bottom line.
|
Deffinately a playmaker in my book. He shows natural instincts for a position he wasnt drafted to play. Class act and deffinately shows unusual maturity for a skill player his age.

We'll have two safeties in the 2011 pro-bowl.
|
You could see in 2009 when he started on special teams that he was going to be a difference maker!
Week 2 vs eagles - forced fumble on special teams that leads to our TD Week 3 vs bills - forced fumble that leads to our TD the kid is going to be amazing at safety, he looks like a natural pro bowler back there |

I think they were nice enough to give him a shot at CB, but in reality they figured they were gonna convert him to safety. JMO, though. |
I was definitely relieved and excited to hear his name called on draft day. Good pick.
|
He gonna be big for us this year. I'm calling atleast 5 picks.
|
He's going to be very good for a very long time.
Although Sharper still has some gas left in the tank. I hope we keep him. He will be great in spot duty and if he's kept fresh for the playoffs that would give us the same edge we had in '09. |
