Saints sign OT Alex Barron
 

New Orleans continues to shop in the bargain basement bin.

We absolutely love the Aubrayo Franklin signing. Wednesday’s agreement with tackle Alex Barron won’t make the same impact, but New Orleans did pick up some veteran depth at a position in need.

Doug Tatum of the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Barron is board.

Jermon Bushrod was brought back to the left tackle. The team has Jonathan Stinchcomb at right tackle and Charles Brown behind them. Barron provides veteran insurance in case one of the above gets hurt.

yea, I am not a fan of this signing....even if its for depth.

Sean Payton on adding T Alex Barron: “It’s a veteran player and we’re just trying to look at mostly our depth and the flexibility we have during this training camp. So we want to take a peek at these guys and see what they can do while they’re hear.”

Everything I have read re; Barron is not very good. Mostly a 1st round bust.

Given C. Brown is rehabing the knee...a camp body IMHO.

What exactly has Bentley done, since he left New Orleans?

Wow what a surprise, it's a depth move so the real tackles can rest during camp, low risk and any reward is a bonus, Saints need linemen for the 4th qtr of preseason games anyways

Saints signed OT Alex Barron, formerly of the Cowboys.

It's more depth for the Saints, who were able to retain starting LT Jermon Bushrod in free agency. Barron is a former first-round pick and has the upside to fill a swing tackle role. The Saints also signed journeyman tackle George Foster.

Barron hasn't been a pro bowl tackle but hes been serviceable. Whats up with Streif id like to see him hold that RT spot if Stinchcomb continues to get molested

Barron doesn't lack size...6'8" and 316lbs.

Barron, Strief (6'7" 320lbs), Rogers (6'5" 350 lbs), Bushrod (6'5" 315lbs), Evans (6'4" 315lbs), Nicks (6'5" 343lbs) getting off any bus should turn heads! :)

I don't mind this signing. He's huge and had first-round talent. Low risk, high reward at a critical position, that's fine with me.

The tackles provide depth but may not make the final roster!!!

The Saints run a free market training camp. If you want to compete, come compete, but no one is safe and there isn't any leeway for injuries or mistakes.
Barron is being given a shot to compete, and if he makes it you better believe he will contribute. If he can't then he gets cut before the end of the preseason.

He got hurt and stayed hurt.

Coach Payton knows him.

Everybody is down on these signings... i dont get it, these guys are basically on their last shot, their trying to eat, lets hope they hungry.. because they wasnt 1st round picks for nothing. If just one pans out, well worth it then bringin in some undrafted tackle to protect our qbs..
